I have a 99 cav, 2.2liter I think, and just recently the ABS light is ON. I took it to a break shop and told me it's not the break pads and suggested to take it to the dealer. Took it to the dealer and they changed battery and cable the told me it's electrical problem. They ding me with $450 for freeking battery, cable and labor. Have anyone have any idea what seems to be the problem so that I can maybe I can fix it myself.
Thanks, NEWBE

Were both of these places cleaners?
Sort of suprising the response from the dealer. Any good mechanic should have a scan tool that would read the code causing the light to come on.The dealer should have been able to hook up a scanner and tell you EXACTLY what the problem is.
I'll guess you have a bad sensor on one of the front wheels. If you take a wheel off, look for a wire that connects to a small black sensor pointing at the back of the wheel hub. The sensor may have fallen out of it's bracket, the wire broke, or it just stopped sensoring.

Either a bad wheel sensor (there are 4) or a bum computer.I would test the wheel sensors first.A good sensor will have a resistance (OHM) reading,a bad one will be "open" (infinity).I find that rear ones are rather troublesome...especially on 2nd generation J bodies. The dealer said replace the battery? Huh? Maybe it was time to anyway....the car is 7 years old,and if it was original.....it was time.
