Dynomax Catback exhaust a total letdown

I'll let my new times do the speaking:
18.10 @ 75.3
18.00 @ 75.3
I couldn't bear to do anymore runs...
I can feel a significant decrease in low end torque and power. Granted it does sound good, but is really just a $150 noisemaker. I was expecting around 5 hp, or maybe slightly less, but I believe I've lost nearly 20 ft-lb. of torque or more, with not much power increase in the upper RPM (certainly not enough to make up for the drop in 1/4 mile time).
I will be reverting back to stock ASAP...
Anyone had better luck with a different muffler? (Sucks to pay $150 and lose 1.5 seconds on your quarter mile, it feels like a 4-banger now)

Well I went with a Magnaflow Highflow Cat and a Lawson Industries Incinerator muffler. I got a slight gain and much better sound. Everyone on the board seems to be in love with Ravin but I could never find one. The Magnaflow Catback system is supposed to be good but they sound like shit if you ask me. I just got the Cat because most of the high flow cats are the same. I would not get a Magnaflow muffler.

i have the dynomax kit and im totally satisfied with it (except it is a little too quiet).
i don't own a gtech so i don't know what i gained from it. the techs at dynomax said to expect a 5-8hp@wheel increase.

Do any of you actually TEST your exhaust systems to see if you got a gain???
The night I installed it I could've SWORN it felt TONS MORE POWERFUL...
The next day I tested it and realized it had taken my V-6 and turned it into a 4-banger...

Lose a second and a half with a low restriction exhaust? That's not possible. Stick a potato in there and that might do it. I'm guessing the ECM didn't have good mixture control on the fuel/air ratio or something.

Sounds like the minimum back pressure was not maintained with the "free flowing" system.

Basically Dynomax = crap
because they don't research for anything more than sound quality, apparently...

yea i would go with magnaflow , edelbrock or ravin. You need to stay away from free flowing (no restriction) systems you lose all your low end torque by doing that. you need a little restriction to still get that kick that your looking for.

I just installed mine about 4 weeks ago. I have the Dynomax Super Turbo Kit and at around 3,500 - 4,000 RPMs I feel a clear difference.
How is it possible to actually lose power with less restriction and .5 inch larger pipes?

Are you sure it was put in with the muffler in the correct direction . I have seen one put on one backwards . They sound ok but air flow is severly hindered . Rob

same here. the only problem i had with mine was that u had to take the right rear wheel off to get the pipe over the axle. after a few hundred miles, the muffler breaks in and it is a little louder.

You sure it wasn't something else?
Do you have supporting mods like an intake?
Don't butt-dyno the results, the results could be based off of different humidity, different temperatures that right or tire pressure, or so much more.
