I jus bought a 92 Seville sts and I paid $1500 for it with 237,000miles on it. The body has been well taken cared of and was driven by old people. As soon as I got it I floor it a coulpe of times being an idiot and, the engine died on me. I found the same exact engine for $745-45000 miles on it. It cost 1540 to install. I want to know if it is still worth putting an engine in and spending money on it. I dont know much about cars, especially cadillacs. I also wan to know if any else is going to go. Please give me advice.:grinyes:

Find out exactly what has gone wrong with the old engine.

When you say 'died', did it fling a rod out the side (definite replacement needed) or did it just stop running?

Next, are you sure of the mileage on the new engine? $745 is okay if it really does only have that mileage.
Also, the labour to install seems a little steep to me.

If the car really is in very good shape, its worthwhile. If the paint is bad, or its rusty, or has a bad trans, etc, let it go.

That is a great buy. Its a Northstar correct? A crate Northstar will drain you about $7,000. One with 45K for $745 is a great deal. That engine is worth about 3-4 grand. Now is just the intallation $1540? Or is a engine and installation $1540. If its just the installation, find youself a new dealer. If its both, then it sounds about right. But don't mess around this one either. Remeber, that tranny still has 237k miles on it.

It is not a northstar, it is a 4.9L 300ci and Its in a small town and I dont have anyone else to put it in except Cadillac themselves. The engine installation estimated cost was 1540 so, hopefully its cheaper right...

for caddy to instal thats cheep. you don't want a north star anyway. great engine but has issues that can cost a lot. caddy has law suits against them over this engine.

Yeah, that's a good price for a dealer to install an engine. So what is now wrong with the original engine?
