2002 Civic LX--n00b--where do i start?

i'm relatively poor and have never modded a car in my life. i've changed brakes and put on a spare tire.

i'm also pretty quick to pick up new stuff, so i'm curious--is there anything that can be done to add some decent power to my car that won't cost gobs of cash?
