97 Jetta GLS Sunroof Question

Just purchased a 97 Jetta GLS with sunroof. No owners manual.

Is the sunroof made to just tilt up (like a wedge) or should it also slide open?

if its factory its supposed to slide into roof also

It is factory installed. Guess we need to find out why it isn't sliding open then.

there is a plastic plate that pops off ( top of windshield near light switch)
that covers the motor to the sunroof. there is a small tool there to open or close roof if the motor fails.

Our sunroof only tilts up...it doesn't slide when we push the buttons. Without an owners manual, we weren't sure if that is all it was supposed to do but now it looks like it is supposed to slide open and we need to find out why it won't.
