Progress - Ferrari 512TR from Rosso

Started yet another one.
Now my favourite colour for this car is Giallo Modena, so it's only natural that this one will be painted Rosso Corsa :) Here are some photos for you to see what I'm doing with it.
Side strakes ... my least favourite part in any kit of a car that has them. Various manufacturers suggest different solutions for this area (my favourite - Italeri on their 348). Rosso's solution is OK, but if built oob it would leave a panel line where it doesn't need to be. I tried to correct that by cutting the part that goes behind the door along the door line...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/RIMG_3841.jpg
.. and gluing the front part to the body.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/RIMG_3844.jpg
I was hoping that this would enable my to fill that unnecessary panel line and at the same time I was hoping to be still able to paint inside that area using my airbrush. The first part of the plan worked just fine, but I'm not particularly confident about the second part after I've airbrushed a couple of coats of primer on it.
The fit of the headlight covers was rather disapointing, especially that of the right hand side one. Had to add a piece of styrene to make it fit the openning.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/CIMG_3848.jpg
Here is where I am now. The body has received two coats of primer that is now sanded to remove dust and correct imperfections. Cannot see it in the pictures, but I've also removed the lower rear grille to make painting, polishing and detailing easier.

Yes. So I'm going be watching this build like a hawk to see if the F&F from them is good enough to warrant a second attempt at buying that kit (and keeping it).
Nice work so far, this will look great. Your solutions to the kit's issues are inspired.

I would go with tan, most are out of the 20 I have been looking at over the past year for a track car 17 were tan.

I built this kit last year, while finished it looks pretty damn good (and I didn't do the side pod modifications), it was a royal pain in the ass to build. The suspension parts were a nightmare, none of them fit. It looks so clean and simple until you start assembling...:banghead: Knowing that ahead of time can save you some hassle...make sure every mounting hole is opened up as the pins are all a bit too big; and my rear suspension/frame was broken a bit and also a nightmare just trying to keep it together long enough to do final assembly.

I have a Monogram 512 TR that I want to build; it's quite a good kit w/full engine detail and I have a set of Rosso rims for it. The side strakes solution they have is probably the best I've seen of all; better than Rosso and Tamiya-the strakes are solid (and quite thin) but since there aren't any weird parting lines the effect is more realistic.

Thanks for the encouragement and motivating pictures, guys!
A quick question: does anyone have a decent picture of the wheelarches (front and rear) with the wheels removed? I've gathered plenty of references, but nothing of those areas from those angles. Thanks in advance.
Tan might be a good choice for the interior, but I'm in no hurry to make a decision. I think black would look quite good too, but I'd rather use black for the interior of my second 512TR.
Thanks again.

Thanks for the pictures and kind words, everyone. I have made some progress I'd like to share.
First off, big change of plans. Decided to make this version:
http://cache.gizmodo.com/gadgets/images/HelloKittyTRFinalsmall.jpg
Yes, the Hello itty 512TR. I know it's a photoshop, but it's so damn cute! So I have painted the body, the colour seems pretty close
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/satIMG_3874.jpg
OK, breathe in and put away those heart pills. I'm just messing with you, some innocent photoshop fun ;) Yes, I was planning this from the beginning. I did put a couple of coats of the base colour on the car yesterday, and here's what it looks like. This is not a photoshop.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/resIMG_3874.jpg
I like it, the red is very rich and juicy. Hope to finish the body this week, time permitting.

Kitty decals? :D Sounds awesome actually!
The paint is Glasurit Rosso Corsa. It requires a clearcoat, but not before I spray two or so coats of red.
Thanks for the comments.

An update.
Since I've done things with the body that are too disturbing to post on an open forum, I've done some work on the suspension, mostly rear.
Here is what it looked like oob. For some reason, this piece had plenty sink marks and pin holes on the visible side, so it took some filling/sanding/filling/sanding to remove.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v68/ales12911/512TR1/11a938b7.jpg
I've been adding some bolts, nuts and brackets here and there, and here's what it looks like now.

I will also be adding an anti-roll bar and some other details here and there, so it's not finished yet. The front will get similar treatment.
Thanks for the comments, guys, and sorry it's taking longer than I was hoping for.

Did you cast those nuts and bolts, or did you get 'em from somewhere? I've been scouring... well, I've been idly thinking about finding nut/bolt castings around engine bays, the PE bits are way too flat.

Thanks!
Will, I didn't cast them, there's a guy locally who makes them for his military purposes and I've been able to get some from him.
