My dad tricked out my brakes :)

So last night I had to change my rear brakes for inspection. My dad who normally isn't too thrilled about car fixing but is always willing to help, wasn't around. So I spent about 2 hours just to get a wheels off because someone ran on the lugs with an air gun to the point I can't get them off.

I broke both wheels loose and couldn't get the calipurs off. So I left him a note: dad please get the bolts out of my calipurs when you have time tomorrow. So I come home today from class around 10pm and my car is out of the garage in the drive way. I figure okay he broke them loose and then moved it out to take his space back.

I get in the house and he's smiling away and says go look at your car. He ended up changing the brakes for me (which was super nice of him), and painting the hubs of the rotors black, and the calipurs copper (a flat copper). It looks so sharp.

Then after I come in from looking (pics tomorrow when it's light out) all I get is: "I took your car for a drive to break them in after, It's a neat car, it's really light and man can it hull. Your mother didn't like how fast I told her I got it going. The turbo is neat."

:) Sorry just had to share thought it was cool.

Damn, thats tight. I wish my parents would let me have fun with cars. My dad is all for me buying a busted up Camaro or something to build because hes been there and done that, plus hes been around Chevy V8's a time or a hundred and can help me work on it. I asked about a DSM and get immediately shot down. Even tonight on my mom's birthday they were talking about how retarded Mike's DSM is. I had a weird feeling we would talk about cars tonight. I wish I could tell them how much I want to do this before I get old and cant anymore, but they wont listen. Oh well, 5 more months and its not their decision anymore.

my dad was against it kinda..

When i originally went looking for cars I found a lazer he really wanted me to have a chevy because all our other cars are gm's. Dealer sold it as I walked in the door with cash. I ended up with a cavalier.

I spent 4 summers working till I had enough to buy my first spyder (it's hard to save when your in college). So I finally got it last spring. I pay insurance, gas, for the car. So they really had no say other then can I put it on their insurance.

As an advantage I used the well I need a new car because my sister is going to drive soon and she can have the cavalier because it's reliable. So if you got a younger sister try to pawn off the gm on her :)

But yeah do it on your own. While your dad may only know gm to be quite honest a car is a car. There are different systems but my dad who only knows gm's helps me quite a bit when I need it. His only complaint is usually to the tone of "damn it, it's metric again"

So keep trying.

 My brother was going to buy my Cavalier too! I even used the same excuse for dad to let me sell it! I was going to get a low milage 97-99 GSX, but they are like 12-15 grand and I dont want to pay that much. I almost bought 90k mile 95 TSI AWD, but he didnt like that much. I will get the Cavy good and drivable (unpaint the interior, got halfway done and parents took a shit, new CD player, and some more boom from the trunk) and save for a 1g to make into a race car. Dad races will let me race dirt circle track with him, maybe he can get into a drag track too. This summer, next winter, or the next summer I will end up with my dream car though, so its all good. Thanks for the support. Cant wait for pictures, copper calipers sound cool, never thought of that.

Pictures at the link above. They look sharp. The blue is the new squeel stuff he sprayed on the back of the brakes.

small tire

Oh. It looks horrible. My car has rather small tires on it but it doesn't look like that. Whatever.

lol nope it's stock height. I dunno the size of the rim. I assume it's the same as on my 2.4 l because they look like the same rims. I think the tires are the same size too... It is really high in the back. Not sure why because I think my old spyder was lower... But the suspension may have been shot it had 153k on it. Just huge wheel gap. My only problem with lowering it would be we get alot of snow here in winter and I'm not sure how it would do. Other then that I'd be all for doing it. I can just barely get my jack under it now to get it up off the ground...

It does look good I was surprised also because I didn't think copper would look as good as it did. But it turned out sharp and I have a pare of the chrome mitsu rims for in the summer. I don't run them in winter because I use to have my snow tires on my rims that look like the ones in the picture..

Vanilla After looking at your picture it looks the same as mine. I noticed my car noticeably slopes to the front though. Do you have anything done to yours?

http://www.novaslp.net/pics/v/newcar2/img_0083.jpg.html if you see on that picture it slopes forward a bit. I guess once I put amp and subs in back again that may weigh it down a bit...

No mine is stock height. I guess its just because I have 100+ extra pounds in the trunk. But my next mod is defineatly going to be coilovers...just got to order them up some time.

But I think all eclipses and most all cars anyway has the front sitting a little lower.
