6bolt or 7 bolt?

hi guys i am new to the 4g63 i had a 420a and i wont ever have another one but i see alot of threads where people mention having a 6 bolt engine or a 7 bolt . can someone tell me witch one is better and if there is a way to tell the difference without having to take the engine apart? thanks for any help you can give me.

What year is your car? 90 to early 92 had a 6bolt, 6bolts can hold more power and do not have problems with crankwalk (7bolts don't have that much of a problem with cw just more than the 6bolts) Check the faq that will help.

my car is a 1998 spyder gst and thanks for the info. i am glad that i found this site i think it is going to be verry helpfull in the future.

You have a 7bolt. Unless the previous owner did swap.

The bolt numbers are referring to how many bolts hold the flywheel to the crank shaft. If that was unclear (it was to me anyway) the "7 bolt" has 7 bolts holding the flywheel to the crank shaft, likewise the "6 bolt" has 6.
