Hey. I'm currently the owner of a Chevi S10. I work for the city, and one of the city vehicles is a 1990 F250 pickup with a 5.8L in it. Now, this truck has a s***load of power, it'll get up and go like something out of this world. Although the body is getting kind of ragged out, it runs like a sewing machine; engine runs great; transmission (automatic) shifts gears as smoothly as silk. It's a great running truck, but my question is gas mileage? Does it get pretty good mileage, or is it a gas guzzler? (I don't get to drive it that much, PLUS the gas gauge doesn't work, but the guy who drives it most says it gets pretty good mileage). :)

Thanks.
Sigh... too bad it's a gas guzzler, otherwise it's such a nice engine. :(

They're not all gas guzzlers. I purchased a '94 F-150 4X4 5.8l with the automatic overdrive transmission and lock out hubs a little over 2 years ago with 140,000 miles on it. I took it on a few highway trips shortly after that and I always got 14.5 to 15.5 MPG. This was driving around 65 MPH. Not bad for a full size 4X4 in my opinion. And yes it has a ****load of power. By contrast I also have an '88 F-150 4X4 with the 4.9l six cylinder and 5 speed manual transmission, also a great durable engine but a bit under powered. On a GOOD DAY and under the same conditions it might get 17 MPG. I wouldn't consider my 5.8l a gas hog.
