what the heck is an sr20gtr? oh dear, prepare for a lot of research...

what type of driving are you aiming for? drift? drag? auto-x? rally? daily driver?

oh wait, by sr20gtr do you mean an sr20det from a pulsar GTi-R? don't, that's set up for AWD, which you don't have.

not really lookin to drift..i just want a motor thats has a lot of potential and is already pretty fast. would the red or black top be better. i got 5 grand. what should i do.

02-21-2006, 07:57 PM
all motor? eh, you shouldn't really be looking into the sr20det or any skyline engines since they're all turbo then if you're going that route

hockeystar_27
02-21-2006, 08:00 PM
oh the turbo is fine but i dont want no tank on my car or nothin like that. sorry for the confusion. im kinda leanin towards the sr20 but i really dont know the diff in in black and red top

I bet he doesn't even know what all motor means. Listen, do some research, there is no "best motor" the fact that your even asking that shows that you know nothing. So go learn about the engines.

im tyin to do that. but peps like u make shit hard. its not a hard question. what DO YOU think the best all around motor is that could be put in my car.like under 5 grand. should i get the front end clip or just the motor

no man he is totally right. He is not making shit hard for you. Your expecting someone to tell you what to do. Go do your own damn research first and learn it on your level. The best engine is what ever engine you want to buy...thats the best. Rotary, v8, sr, ka, rb, vq, 2jz wtf ever you want, thats the best engine for you. It seems like people make it hard for you, but that question is so broad and noob-like that thats why it seems that way....(if that makes sense). There is no BEST engine. Truth is...any engine you pick stock is going to be a slow pos. 5grand can make a KA go vroom. 5grand can get you a decent sr clip and supporting mods to make it run right. It all depends on what YOU know and what YOU can do as far as work goes. Thats how you determine if something will be cheaper/better/more for your money.

You come on saying i have 5 grand what should i do with it? Give it to me, thats what you should do? I mean wtf kind of question is that. More research, study each engine to see what kind of powerband and what not is more to your liking. And see what is involved in each engine to see what upgrades would be smart to buy first.

and no dont go buy pistons, crank, or upgraded turbo. By shit that needs to be replaced and have a strong running motor. Shit if you dont know about engines...i wouldnt buy anything that has to do with a serious upgrade to one........the best thing you can honestly do is, keep saving, dont get all spend happy so you can impress the highschool girls and beat a fucking rsx (which isnt f'ing hard). Read up and do mass research and then you will see why people respond the way they do. Cuz you will feel the stupidity. Im not bashing you at all either lol, its just the way it is. Once you have a better understanding, you will know what to buy. Seriously man, just read up.......ALOT. Then buy when your ready, dont buy cuz you have the money and superstreet says your cool now if you have this!!!!!! And dont go spending all your cash on motor shit, if you need other parts that are worn out for you car. You know like suspension, drivetrain, etc etc. There's more to a car than engine........what are your GOALS for the car? Like what? Everyday nice streetable driver? All out circuit? All out drag? Puuuurty show car?

thats the way you dont do it....just let him be.......no we have to help him. You went ahead and had the nerve to say, then buy pistons, crank, and upgrade turbo. Sure tell him to kill himself. Judging by his question, he prolly cant handle huge power..... He needs to learn the CAR before he mods it. Check out his car and see whats all wrong with it. A sr is no good if your shit is falling apart and bushings are worn and suspension is loose and clunky. Its little shit like that, that can make a difference. And btw.....just because you get an sr..dont expect it to run perfect right out of the box. It may need oem/aftermarket upgrades to run right......or run at all.....

oh drivin the car aint the prob. my pops has a 04 350z and i can handle that to the point that i wont more. but i just fot new struts spring busing like 2 weeks ago. the timin chain is loose and if i rev it up the chain is hittin the top od the valve cover.so i either got to get that fixed or go ahead and get ready to get a motor

its most likely your upper timing chain guide. Which is a common dealer defect. Which is why the quit supplying them in the timing chain kits. Its a little plastic piece that is held on by two bolts iirc. That will most likely get rid of the tick. Unless you know for a fact thats its your timing chain. But i dont think it would run that good at all if it was that loose lol. or run at all for that fact.

Hey from a guy who's been in a serious wreck, take it slow. Limit yourself to parking lot stupidity, and race on the track. You don't want to have to hear your friend call your mom in the ambulance while your strapped to the backboard to tell her you've been in a wreck. My back will be messed up for the rest of my life because of me an my friends stupid mistake.

Plus you don't need to have power to be fast, take hachi's for example people still compete with them and do rather well.

The timing chain is an easy fix, remove the guide between the camshafts and if it keeps making noise you might need to just replace the chain like I had to. The chain doesn't have to be off by much to make noise.
the chain costs like $40 at a dealer

dog my boy's ack?

thats a new one...

the reason people are telling you guys to read up is so that you can actually find what you're looking for. i don't think you're gonna find a rb25dett. ever. not for sale at least.. theres no such thing. learn more about the engines before you start lookin to buy one. learn where they're from and what comes with them. that way, you'll be able to talk about an engine that actually EXISTS, instead of babbling about some rb25dett..

on the other hand, i think we're all being a little anal about this.. all you guys need to do is read up on the rb series engines, sr engines, ca engines and ka engines. when you know the differences, you'll be able to figure out for youself which one is the best.

i meant rb26dett. sorry for the cause of this bickering. i was tryn to get it typed up fast cuz my laptop was goin to die. NOT RB25DETT, RB26DETT SORRY FOR THE MISTAKE!

as a car nut and mechanic, gonna have to agree with most of what chuki has to say here, mighta been a little harsh with it, but since you obviously have the internet, just do a search for the engine, sr, ka, rb, wtf ever and you'll have enough learning material to keep you reading for weeks, do some research and pick some good options and come back with a question like "what do you guys think of the sr compared to the ka"

what a waste of my life. cant we just copy the link to one of the old threads just like this and just let people re-read that thread instead of wasting our lives saying the same thing over and over

In this thread I spy...

-E-Thugs being retarded
-E-Thugs jerking eachother off
-Typical "if you know so much answer this" questions
-Somebody calling Nico "a good forum"
-Somebody with a gigantic picture of a stock 240sx

I'll also take this time to rant a little.

90% of the time I'll make a post like this and some jackass will come out of the wood work saying "OMG you should help him".

FUCK THAT.

People need to learn. If all your gonna do is spam threads like "LOL I searched "LOL SR20 yO" on google and nothing came up. What motor should I get for my dumpster wagon so the tires will go ZOMG SCRREEEECHHH?" they need to go back to the shithole school you came from and bang an english book over your head for 30 minutes.

500 for an install? Maybe if youre helping the guy. If youre lucky youll be able to get a SR20 and Installed for about 3500.

WTF...Are yuo guys saying oh no baby him because hes new and doesnt need to figure stuff out on his own?!? PEOPLE LIKE HIM DO NOT NEED AN ENGINE OR A 240 LIKE THIS!!! You guys omg this is why im leaving AF. It is getting way too stupid. Ive been here for way too long and it has reached rock bottom on what seems the IQ pole. BTW the GTI-R motor is a fricking Stanza FWD motor. I vote that you put that GTI-R engine in your 240SX...it out revs youre normal SR and will get you WICKED SLIDEWAYZ. HAve fun AF. Im out.
