just sick and tired of the stock deck so decided to run down to futureshop and buy a deck and in the end found out from those guys that i need a transmitter chip. i have installed decks in cavavans, caprices, impalas. but never came across this. apparently the chip is required because the airbags, an the door sensors are attached to the deck. so i need to bypass all those with the transmitter. the chip it self costs $150.00. so question is: has anyone ever delt with this situation? do i really need the transmittor chip?

You won't loose your airbags if you bypass the module, but you WILL loose your door chimes. There is a sticky around here doing into detail which i posted not too long ago. Look for something titled dash/removal. Its in the J-body subforums.

We have a wiring harness that directs that problem for it runs into your new head unit but it retails the stock head unit in a different location (your choice) I ran mine under the passanger seat. So they were BSing you about the chip. cause I never ran the chip just kept the stock unit tucked away under my passanger seat and have my alpine in my dash. If your interested in the wiring kit pm for more info.

If you can do without the chimes...a basic harness will work. If you want the chimes, you can do one of two things....either you can do what WS-Enterprise said and relocate your stock deck somewhere...most people move it to the trunk, or you can check out crutchfield, they have a harness that has a chime speaker attached to the harness, and all you have to do is mount the speaker.
I went with the second option. The harness costs a bit more ($80), but that's cheaper than the relocation harness. I mounted my speaker under the driver side dash using wire ties.

I know of the kit your refering to and it is to some more conveinient... but I prefer the cheaper side when I can but my kit does come with a remote speaker that you can choose to hook up or not.
