Gen 2 rear window reg in '97?

Great forum! I'm a newbie here and a new owner so this list has been invaluable. By way of introduction I bought a 97, 3.2, 5spd, 4x4 three weeks ago. It had a few problems I've been working through. I put in a new alternator and cleared up most electrical gremlins. I had the water pump t-belt, pulleys and tensioner replaced ($700). I did CV boots (mecatech, and I recommend them). I fixed the rear window latch mechanism with a spring and a little tweaking. I replaced the right rear window regulator with an ebay unit- works great. Project for next paycheck is new radiator. It's not leaking, but I smell coolant and the plastic tank radiators are not usually known for longevity. My question now is about the left rear window regulator. I have not been able to locate a cheap replacement so I wondered if any one had tried to retrofit a 98+ unit into an older Rodeo. Later model regulators seem easier to come by and cheaper too. It also looks like the design was improved over the "we don't need no stinkin' pulleys" design in the 91-96s. Is it true that virtually none of the gen parts will fit the older models.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks for the link. They list decent prices for the front regulators, but unfortunately don't list the rear regulators at all. I won a left rear reg on ebay from a 98. I'll see if it's possible to make it work. If not it'll be $30 worth of curiosity satisfied. :screwy: It'll probably resell on ebay or here if it comes to that. I'll report back after I try it.

Many of the sites don't offer the rear regulator, for some reason. I got mine from St. Charles Automotive, I think. Can't remember the price. A buddy of mine has the same rig with 2 regulators out. I think I'll tell him to try the eBay reg.

About the coolant smell.... Have you looked on top of the block, under the intake with a flashlight for coolant. Have you seen the threads on the coolant leak from the o-rings at the ends of the external cooling pipes on top of the block?

Checked today for coolant in the vee- looks pretty clean. I replaced the 15 psi cap that was on it with a 16 as there was some crust around the filler. I've got a little green at one corner of the radiator at the tank/core junction. I suspect some vapor is escaping there. I'll search for threads on the o-rings.
