Ok,so I know I have little experience driving I'm man enough to admit that. But yet my knowledge on performance and the engine itslef is overwelming so I can make a pretty sick ride out of just about anything. so what would you MORE experienced obviously older racers/drivers advise for a kid like me ? So fare as having a good solid safe car(this is my mom's requirments)? I'm just curious, cause there are thousands of car's to choose from. But I well my mom rather wants me to get something safe and good on gas. i want something that I will be able to atleats tweek for some kind of performance edge BESIDES STUFF MADE BY HONDA ! so do you guys ahve any suggestions ?

i dont know what insurance costs are like in the US, but i would recomend an Impreza if you can get insured on that? If not, Nissan Pulsar GTi-R's are verrry fast little cars, but again, im not sure if they are over in the US. Anything Japanese will be guaranteed to be cheap, safe and tunable. Hope this helps:)

have you thought about some of the old skool BMW's and Merc's. Some of them can really haul ass, AND they have the traditional German build quality!

Chevy Caprise, the 5.7 hauls major ass, its 4 door, and big/safe. What about an older muscle car? A chevelle would haul and be safe, so would a Caddy (pimp'n it!:smoka: ) or maby a Galaxy. None of these are good on gas, but like the Caprise or a T-bird gets about 25mpg freeway, which isnt bad.

me being a nissan man i would have to save a 4th gen maxima SE. 190hp stock. not bad for a 4 door. and you can get it to hit 14's with bolt ons, if you can find one in 5 speed.

My mom knows for a fact that germany would be the way to go,but tehy are so freaking expensvie to fix no matter whatthe year. If I could get some advise on what type of bmw or mercedes to look for that would be great. As for the japanese stuff everysince my mom saw F&F she thinks everything japanese is fast.........sadly

Wait, is your mom paying for it? cause if not technically you could buy whatever you want.

My personal suggestion, get an early 90's Subaru legacy. They come in either 4 door sedans or 2 door coupes, they're rather large, have 2.5L horizontal engines that with even a simple turbo can push a fair bit of power. They're fairly large, but not overly heavy. Plus, they're AWD which is always a bonus.

True, they are from japan, but theres a good chance your mom doesn't know that, so you could just tell her it's an australian company :) Besides, it is still a fair size sedan, but it's got great potential for power and stock it has great handling.

i'd go for a 328is if you were looking for a bimmer. make sure you get the 5 speed though. bmw's are really nice, but would cost more when compared to a japenese car to make quicker.

more subi's: new wrx? its moderately quick, and has a lot of potential.... or how bout a previous gen 2.5RS? around 150 hp and tq, all wheel drive, and looks much better than the new RS.

eclipse GSX? AWD, turbo, around 200hp, good potential... but semi-heavy.

to make mom feel a little more comfortable, have a small roll cage or roll bar installed in the car. the big stainless steel tubing has got to be convincing.:smoker:

fat ninja's sig gave me an idea, you could build an 11 sec turbo'd chrysler minivan, (you can also stick 350's in the old astros) but i would honestly try for a 240sx. this is always my advice, if they're being unreasonable about it, just bust out askin for a crotch rocket, then a fiat 125 spyder (find a pic and show it to them, :D ), then just work your way down to what you want.

you need to give us all an idea of youre budget but if you want german, how about the original 3 series. the M3 was a classic, and if not that, how about the next generation 3 series is a good car, especially the higher cc petrols. as for mercs the old E320 is a nice car, as is the 190 EVO (these are rocketships but verrrry rare). What about Lexus's, an old LS400 can be under £10,000, as can an old shape s-class

I like the suburu legancy idea, I have acually thought about that car cause there's not alot of them and they are all wheel drive. Secondly yes my mom is buying the car, that's why I don't have much say in it. The budget well I'mma guess somewhere around 4 or 5 grand and under. But keep in mind other then performance I wanna be able to give the car a face lift also.

how about an older shape VW golf? i dunno wot money they fetch in the US, but the old GTi's or newer VR6's are brilliant cars. Or even the Peugeot 205 1.9 GTi(these go like hell, but are a bit flimsy)

Also, living in the US, do you have problems getting insured for faster cars, cos in the Uk, for a first car anything over 1.5 litres is near impossible to insure

Oh yeh, nearly forgot. Do you get the Lancia Delta Integrale (Evolution preferably) in America. If you do then i will personally guarantee that this will beat the shit out of anything you will ever see on the road in terms of all round performance. They are quite cheap nowadays too:D

if you want power and a learning expirience get a old school laser/eclipse/talon. it comes with 210hp i think it can be in front wheel or all wheel drive. there is a huge market of mods for them. there'r not the prittyest but they look strait if kept clean.....no rice shit. there' pretty stright forward to modify. i have a couple of friend's that have some and they could beat my WRX when it was stock. AWD launch will get you every time if racing is what your after. good luck and please don't rice out what ever you end up getting.

Well I got the car today. It's a 83' Datsun 280zx TURBO ! You know the 5spd. inline 6 cylinder turbo. I don't know the engine code on it yet. If any of you guys could tell me that would be great. A friend of mine tells me there was a recall on the stock injectors on the car back in 83' Was this true ? If it is I'll call the dealership monday and take it down there to get fixed. Other then taht it run's pretty good. Me and a mechanic friend of mine are gonna run through the electrical system later next week to check for bugs. Other then that I'mma get some minor work done and go straight to the body and get the A/C fixed cause it's UGLY very UGLY. Once I get the face lift done along with paint, and audio system installed. I'mma go bad and give the engine a total make over as well. I hope to have it nopi ready by the time of the next Tour when it rolls around. If any of you guys are willing to help me out. That would be great ! :D :D :D
