95 gmc sierra

I have a 95 gmc sierra that sometimes dies or won't start. I noticed when it won't start or it dies the fuel gage peggs full (no power) and the service engine light is not on. I checked the fuel pump via the test plug under the hood. test good and cleaned grounds at the frame near the tank and under the hood. It has 165,000 miles and has never been in the shop. It will crank but gets no fuel or ignition.:banghead:

You need to clean the battery posts and cable ends. Look close between the double cable ends and then tighten with a 6 point box wrench. Not a 12 point because unless it is a good fit, it will strip the bolt head.

I cleaned the cables, although were not that dirty, its been out there running for an hour now. Didn't think it would be that easy, we'll see what happens. Thanks for the help Bob

I think I have the same problem on my 95 Sierra. How did you check the fuel pump?

There is a red wire and plug coming out from behind the fuse block under the hood. I made a jumper and ran it to one of the 12 volt posts also on the back of the same fuse block.

Not able to find it? Do you have a pic?

I sure don't, but it is about 10 inches long and it hangs down just below the aft inboard corner of the fuse block under the hood if your leaning over the driver side fender. Just reach around under the fuse block and you should find it.

Just for info. The road test failed after cleaning the cables. went to library and printed out wiring diagram and found bad ground at the thermostat housing. :naughty:
