ok, my amp was working for about a week or two, till one day it started turning on and off, then just went out! when I touch the power wire to it the red light comes on for like 1/2 a second an wont come back on. Ive been trying and trying to figure it out but cant! someone please help me out
my amp is a pheonix gold, is this a good amp anyways???? (i got it from a friend)

Pheonix gold is a decent amp better than alot of other ones but its not the best. However to your problem have you checked the ground wire, the remote and that the inline fuse isnt blown or has a bad or loose connection somewhere. Also check for shorts and if nothing is found hook the amp up to another car to make sure its not the amp itself you can hae internal shorts, or loose components. If you can use a voltmeter to check that its getting the right amount of power. from what you described it sounds like a bad or loose remote or ground. Also check the wires to the speaker/sub if they are frayed to the sub or the enclosure than it may be shorting out.

ok, I have checked everything, i thought it was just the power wire being loose but i put it back in an still nothin, ive check the fuses too! well i am gunna try an put it in to my car, since its in my sisters car right now, but i dont understand why it would be the ground or anything if it was working, then slowly went off, the last time i was in the car i noticed that when it would sit then she turned the car on that it would be on then slowly go off, the on light on the amp would get dimmer and dimmer and go off, now not come on at all. So well see when i put it in to my car. and another thing is, when the power wire on the amp is out the deck will stay on when the car is off, and which is the best place to put the rem wire, i usually put it on the red wire on the deck? thanxs

just put it in your car and then worry about it.. sounds like a wiring problem, so just make sure you get everythign right when you put it in your car.. if it still is messing up then maybe theres something wrong with the circuitry.

wire the amp to the blue remote wire in the back of the head unit if you have one.. usually there are two of them. if theyre not marked then you might just have to try both and see which on is the remote.

make sure you have a solid ground with plenty of true metal to metal contact when it gets in your car. any paint or dirt or anythign between the wire and frame will make way for a shitty ground.

also be careful if you have an AGU style (little glass tube) fuse.. theyre tricky cause many times theyll blow or partially blow and you cant tell cause they can blow up by the caps and you cant see or tell at all.

The remote is either blue or blue with white line, either doesnt matter. Ones for the remote and the other one is for a power antenna doesnt matter they both turn on when the head unit turns on. You would be surpirsed how a bad ground will cause an amp to act weird.

^^

use amp rem turn on. in a lot of headunits the antena only turns on when the radio is on, in that case you will only be running amps with the radio.

but does it really matter if you use the red(power wire) or the remote wire! Everytime ive put a system in I used the power wire! But does that make a diffrence

useing the power wire as the Remote turn on? WTF? that leaves the amp on ALL the time. and with most amps having an idle draw of at least 1-2a that isnt good if you are leaving your car for like say a week.

umm dude, if it was leaving it on i wouldnt of put it on there!! every system ive put in it never left it on, and if it were to id hook the rem wire to the radio fuse which would also turn it on and off.worked for me every time and never had a problem with it within the last 4 years.

Using the ignition wire as a remote would work but thats why they make a remote turn, the remote turn on works when the HU turns on and the ignition wire usually the red runs off well the ignition so your amo would be on as long as the ignition is on. I had a bazooka amp that wold never turn off even with the remote un hooked and it was a short between the power and the remote internally.

The antenna wire worked fine on my panasonic needed the extra remote since i had 4 amps, long story more of an experiment than a system 2-12 infinity perfects 2-12 polks, 2-10 optimus subs in a jensen bandpass hit hard as fuck but sounded like ass, ended up selling all but the polks. Yeah it was first setup and like most idiots i wanted more bass and i had no cash so thats how it went. Oh well learn we learn from our mistakes.

yeah, i know diffrent amps do diffrent things, but i was just sayin that, thats how i hooked it up and it worked, but since i know about the remote wire thats how ill do it. Thanxs for helpin:p

alright i checked everything. and still nothing!!! so i hook up a diffrent amp and it works fine! ODD HUH!?! well I took the pheonix gold inside and opened it up, come to find out who ever had it before me, wrote the wrong terminals on the outside for the power, remote, and ground wire. Most amps the power wire is on the left and the remote is in the middle and ground is on the right well when i opened it the remote was on the right the power in the middle and ground on the right, SO, my question is would that kill the amp if u had the power in the remote and the remote in the power???? thanxs alot!!!:screwy:
