My prelude 94 auto (not a vtec) 2.2 ltr, has a button called 'sports' on the side of the gear shift and comes up as 'S' on the display board next to the gears D1 -4. What does this do and when do I use it - e.g over 80kms???? Does it chew petrol if its pressed in? Basically I dont have a manual for my car and Ive always wondered what this buttons function is!

wow im so sorry no one has answered you the sports button actually activates a sport chip in your ecu which helps your car to a) save you gas b) save your engine life and c) helps with performance of your ecu... i had a honda accord lx with a sports chip in my last car and i swear because of that chip i saved myself lots of money i almost always had it on and completely stock that car last 15 years on maintenence and a new ignition and radiator was all it ever got!!!!!!!!! the car had 226thousand miles on it when it got an oil clogg i couldnt find and snapped the cam shaft... 600 dollar engine later and voila new car again!!!! oh ps i also got it a new main relay after the ignition...:)

Hey thanks heaps for the reply about the mystery of the 's' button!!!! I dont have a car manual and none of the mechanics could say for sure. I think Ill use it all the time now.
Did you keep it on continuously at start up or only on long trips?

i think it's somthing like a gearing ratio. Try accellorating to highway speed with it off and then on and see if you notice a performance change.
