I really like this car. I got a chance to sit in one duruing the SF auto show, it felt awesome and controls seemed very intuitive. Short shifter is nice and overally interior and exterior styling of the car is awesome. When pontiac comes through with 240 HP supercharged solstice GT...I will need to have one.

I've seen a couple of these cars being driven around town, and I gotta say they look very nice. I have always like this car since it was first introduced as a concept. What makes it even better is the GXP version coming out w/ the supercharger like nikita7 mentioned above. My favorite color for this car has gotta be black, it just looks awesome.

Yuck, not a big fan. I am sure its a nice car but its still the gay mans corvette to me. 240 HP will make it more appealing though.

I'm not a big fan of GM's car, but I have to say this is a nice car. It just lacks HP, would love to see them stick a 6 or an 8 in it.

Why do people do this? Sorry, but many of us don't require our cars to deliver our daily dosage of testosterone. We make enough on our own. ;)
Traditional sports cars are not gay, but they have never been defined by raw power or drag race accelleration. Frem MGBs, Sunbeam Alpines, Austin Healy 100/4 and 3000, Lotus Elans, etc, up to moern interpretations, they are about agility and responsive handling over straight line grunt. Calling them gay shows a complete lack of understanding and appreciation for what this genre has stood for for many, many decades.

Its not that I don't understand. Its just that I don't care about their Genre. I don't even like any of those cars. Not only do I not like its lack of power and the fact that its useless in a straight line, but I also do not like how it looks. If that car had a sexual orientation I would say it would be homosexual. Its my opinion and I am entitled to it.

Well sports cars came long before muscle cars. Sports car never had a purpose to go in straight lines, they were cars for upper class people who enjoyed taking a drives throught the mountains etc. Car's handling was the key factor rather than acceleration.
Its pointless to compare muscle cars to pure sports cars. In a quarter mile race muscle car will rule. On the winding road sports car will leave muscle car in the dust.

The Solstice GXP is going to have 260hp and 260lb-ft from a 2.0 turbo Ecotec. I think it should be a darn good performer, and it will be here come Fall hopefully.

I alo love how people feel that once they form a quick opinion, they should defend being closed minded and insulting as though, as an automotive enthsuaist, that's a valuable goal to strive for. What's the matter? are you afraid that if you actually used your brain and found things to like about other genres, or at least tried to understand them, you'd have to stop liking your favorites?

Car is very light. With supercharger on it will spin tires easily. Bigger engine will kill the weight balance and car will have no traction at all.

Closeminded? I just don't like it. You know... gay people call straight people close minded, is that really so? No. There are people who like putting vinyl graphics down the side of their car, adding chrome wheels and underglow neons on their car, i hate that too and I am sure there are plenty of other people who do, does that make me close minded? Not everything is my cup of tea, I don't need to go around a turn at 50 MPH so cars of that mindset really don't appeal to me. You can't use that daily driving. What matters to me is power, which the solstice does not yet posses. On top of that I do not like its looks at all. You can tell me I am not an enthusiast all day but when it comes down to it, I am just not for this car.

Well with supercharger it will have same horsepower as 2000 Mustang GT, only it will be a bit lighter.

Maybe, but as of yet a supercharged version does not exist. And if they come out with an ugliness delete kit than maybe it will change my mind.

not entirely so
Chuck Mallett in Ohio now has a kit to fit an LS2 in a Solctice and the weight balance wasent thrown off as bad as one would think. it even retained its good handling. (read it in the Feburary issue of Car And Driver)
one thing i dont like about the GXP though is that even though it has the supercharged engine it dosent have bigger brakes. the brakes are from the stock solctice. as much as i love the fact that they pumped the horsepower way up i dont like the fact that they didnt upgrade the brakes to compensate for it =/

That's because the bigger engine still sits in the middle, since the front wheels are so far forward. Balance is retained easily.

Brakes work on mass, not hp. Even if it gets to 60 quicker, it still has the same mass to stop from 60. If the brakes can already lock up the tires (or cause the ABS to kick in) without fade, then the car has enough brakes. And, to be honest, the tires are what really do the stopping. Put teflon tires on and braking distances will increase dramatically. Put autocross sticky rubber on, and the braking distances will shorten up dramatically, with the same brakes.

why do newbies always use so many exclamation points, and never speak in complete sentences!!!!!! (sorry, just blowing a little steam off an old pet peeve

i think carroll shelby demonstrated the effectiveness of putting a big engine into a small car pretty well with a little thing known as the shelby cobra 427 :worshippy
