Shift-Knob w/no start

My 2003 TB starts sometimes and other times it will not. I took the console off and unplugged the shift-lock control solenoid connector and pressed the manual override button and the TB started. However, when I put the console back on and tried to take the key out the key wouldn't go back to the start position to take the key out.
I took the console off again and plugged the solenoid plug back in. I was able to take the key out, but the car wouldn't start again.
Prior to this my wife would drive the TB a distance, and then would try to start it, but it wouldn't start right away. It took several minutes of repeated attempts before the TB would start again. I didn't have the patience, and decided to leave the TB alone for now.
What could this be?
Do I need to replace the Shift-Lock Control Solenoid, or could this be another problem?
Thanks in advance,

The shift lock solenoid to my knowledge only allows the shifter to be moved when stepping on the brake, seems like there is another problem, maybe the shift linkage or shifter somehow is not fully in park.

I went back outside this past weekend and checked the shifter and manual override switch on my TB. However, it was to no avail; still not start.
But, earlier today my wife started the TB after 20 minutes of trying. She met me at a local auto shop, who when asked earlier told me they could diagnois the problem; (DIC stated, "problem with braking system," but no ECM light on). The puzzling thing is that once she's running, there's no problem. But the mechanic called me later and told me the TB has a special obd tool to detect problems which only the dealer had. Thus, I had to take her to the dealer today. Hopefully, I will know what's wrong tomorrow. I pray it doesn't cost alot.
ps. has anyone heard of this special OBD tool?
Thanks in advance,

Full function Tech11 scanner, don't get your hopes up they will find this, could be tough with the problem not evident.

Problem solved. I eventually took the TB to the dealer. I was told the problem was the ignition switch. They changed the switch and there's no more problems. They also replaced the rear door locks at no charge due to a recall.
** I find it hard to believe the ignition switch went out on an 2003 TB. I've never had an ignition switch replaced on any of my vehicles. The longest I've kept a car was abt 10 years (1988 Buick LeSabre T-Type) and even then never replaced the ignition switch. Is this a common problem with the TB's?**
