Model Master Semi-Gloss Lacquer

Hi

I have a small problem that I never seen before. I used Model Master Semi-Gloss Lacquer this morning over Carbon Fiber decal and I had a strange reaction.

I don't have picture of it (I tried to fix it as quick as possible) but just imagine using a "kleenex" and rub it to the surface. It leave small white "fibre" in the paint, just like residue. I thinned it for about 2.5:1 with lacquer thinner, it sprayed nicely in my Iwata, the result while painting was great, but after few minute leaving it in a closed (dust free) compartment, it had all kind of white fibre.

If you have any idea what would have been the problem...

I could be wrong Vric (probably am :) ) but it might be the matting agent they put in the clear?

I seem to recall reading that this is sometimes a problem with MM satin and matt finishes. Maybe its particularly visible on CF? Did you use hi-definition CF by any chance?

Not hi Def but a dark one from SMS yes..

But I also see that problem on regular SMS carbon, less visible but it's there.

I remember this thread. But the problem in this one is a milky look (fog). I have seen this problem too, but this time it's another thing. Might be related, but it's not the exact same reaction I have. (it's not foggy everywhere, I just have "fiber" over the paint)

Ok, your 'fuzz' is tiny bubbles.
I'm going to bet you used a decal setting or solvent solution. These contain a mild acid which does take a while to completely dissapate.
I would consider rinsing the decal with water with a little baking soda in it, then rinsing that with clear water then letting the decal air dry for several days. And then, (NO and then!) I would build the clear starting with mist coats before applying wet coats.

Thanks for the reply. I cleaned the decals with water, but maybe it wasn't enough.

It's hard to explain since I have removed everything as soon as I have seen the problem, but look at this pictures: on the right side in the black paint (not CF) you see the white stuff.

There was a lot more like that all over the surface I painted, I removed about 98% of it.
