He's coming for a completely unrelated activity...do you guys think I should ask him about the car if I get the chance, or will that come off as rude?

Honestly. I think as long as you are polite, and don't interupt his flow of conversation. Then ask. Might be better if you can grab him when hes in a small group of people then wait for a decent moment.
Anyone who knows him will probably know what his attitude to the car is. So do some research before diving in.

thats the bit of advice i'd offer - check him out so as not to tick him off :nono: at least then you may get the answers you are after. He may be a open kind of guy who wouldn't mind talking about his car, but it's probably best to make sure

You probably know more about his car than he does. As long as you make that evident, I think he would love to talk to you about it. The people who buy these cars really are enthusiasts, for the most part.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

You definitely should strike up a conversation. You never know, he might be a real car entusiast and would enjoy discussing it. He might even drive it to the place! Just say "Hey, don't you own a McLaren F1?" or some type of question along those lines.
