Caprice Overhaul Build Log

This isn't going to be your 7 day overhaulin build. I took some parts off my 80 Caprice recently to powder coat. So far this is what I've done. Once I rebuilt the carb, I will put the car on the hoist and take off some suspension pieces to do. Here are a few pictures of the intake/valve covers. I also painted the washers and the head of the bolts. There will be more to this thread down the road. Plans include new interior, body work, paint, stereo, and general clean up.

Thats sweet. How much did it run you to coat the intake & valve covers.

That's where it stands right now. 2 years worth of dust and dirt. It will never look like that again. Going to shave door handles/trunk lock, remove side moldings, remove black bumper moldings, and install 3" fiberglass cowl. Those are the main things going to be done to the body.

lambo's = BIG NO NO, makes it look like a pimp mobile, nice 2 tone, suttle say 2" lowering 17" wheels, Shaved doorhandles and trunk lock, that thing would look sweet, AND NO METAL FLAKE PAINT EITHER, I DONT WANT TO SEE ANY bitches or hoes near that thing

You got it. 2" lowering springs is as much as I am going to lower it. 17"s or 18"s are the biggest I will go as well. Pretty sure 17's when that times comes. Here is what other power plants will be in the car. 2 Alpine MRD-M1000's powering each 1 JL Audio 12W6V2, and 2 Alpine MRV-F540's, 1 for the 6W0's in the doors, and the other for a set of JL Audio 5.25 comps. I will also fiberglass some kick panels for the comps. That is a 6" speaker for size comparison.
Also I just finished rebuilding the carb this week. It was leaking gas onto the intake when I would start it up. Basically changed the gaskets and cleaned it up. Hopefully get that fired on this weekend and hopefully it doesn't leak anymore.

Where are you getting a 3" cowl at? I need a new hood for my car and a small-ish cowl induction hood would look sweet.

http://www.up22.com/scoopw1.htm is where I got the scoop from about 5 years ago. I know it's internal mounting flange, I think its the 116, I can't remember. I don't know if any other hoods from a different model would fit a caprice. I always thought a Monte Carlo hood looked close, but I never actually checked.

Thanks
I think you should switch the tailights for the 86-90 style ones, but add a 3rd bulb in the center & sequential turn signals. That would be awesome.

I think I might do the sequential tail light thing. That's something I was going to do years ago. I will be putting in LED bulbs, so I would have the sequential speed fairly high. If I do it, I will post how.

I used to have a 82 (i think) caprice w/a 307 in it, It had the original style taillights I like them better than the 86-90.....but opinions are like assholes, everybody has one :icon16:

Sounds nice. That is only thing I like about carbs over fuel injection. A carb sounds like it has some real power, while fuel injection cannot usually sould that cool. But, I would never trade my TBI for a carb.

Flowtech full length headers, 2 1/2" to the mufflers, Raven mufflers, and 2 1/4 over the axle to the 3" stainless tips. It sounds good to me.
Don't worry it will all be cleaned up soon. I will probably be pulling the headers this weekend. I'll see if we have any high temp powder coat at work. If not will see how much to get em ceramic coated. Last resort will be a high temp rattle can.
Yeah he's a good dog, at 13 years old he's getting up there.

Small update. Took the inner fenders out. There were a couple areas on them that the metal was gone. So I patched them the best I could. They are pitted a little in some areas, and a non gloss paint would hide it a little better. So I sandblasted them up, zinc primer powder coated them, and 2 coats of gloss black powder coat. They look SO much better and should last for years.

My birthday was a couple days ago and I got a few goodies. Firstly the g/f paid for my headers black ceramicoat job. They are a little flatter looking than I was hoping, but at least they won't rust.

Also got some nice header gaskets, gear reduced starter, stage 8 locking header & collector bolts and a D/A sander.

Also have been calling and searching for months for a 32mm fbody front sway bar. So one at the wreckers that looked close. My digital caliper showed up 2 days later so I went back and measured it. I had to check it in like 10 different spots because I couldn't believe what I saw. Now just to powder coat it to match the rear bar.
