Lightweight flywheel

I'm going to do the clutch on my car next weekend, and was going to get a lightweight flywheel...and some other friends said I would not be able to get down good consistant launches anymore. I have never driven a car with a lightweight flywheel at all much less lauched one, so is it really that much harder to launch?? I guess I'm asking if the benifits of the flywheel will outweigh not getting good launches, or is that just not true???

it will feel different but you should be able to figure it out quick and launch just fine... I know some people that dont like to drive there cars in rush hour trafic with lightend flywheels.. they say its harder and more anoying.. but i have never had a problem with mine.. and i launched fine too... if your doing the clutch.. I would sugest doing the flywheel too wile your at it!

Matt Monett who was the fastest 3kgt and others don't go with the lightweight something bout after the gear changes u loose some momentum with the light weight and run stock fly wheels.

What gains/losses/differences did you get except obvisouly revving faster.

its hard for me to say exactly what it did.. i changed to a 6 puck clutch and got the flywheel at the same time.. but it seemed to just grab and go a lot faster for me! now of course a lot of that is the clutch but i seemed like as soon as it grabed i just flew right to 7k rpms..... the problem is that you have a better chance of bogging down.. i have tryed to lauch and ended up bogging down and that is just cause you dont have all the momentom from the heavy flywheel.. but if matt monett doesnt have it done.. there is a good chance the car is better with out it.. i like mine personaly... if you want more info on matt monett go to www.dynamicracing.com and go to costumers cars he has a few on there

Thanks for the info, I'll look into it some more and I'll go check out the customer's cars right now. I still can't make up my mind...

My eyes they burn all CAPS. As for if u want to look at customer cars and such to get ideas 3sxperformance has there own section. Or better yet just look at sigs aorund here and 3si.

i saw a show where they explain that a heavier flywheel will store more inertia and move a heavier vehicle off the line a lot harder than a light weight flywheel, so heavier vehicles need a heavy flywheel to get off, light weight vehicles, made no difference

the light weight flywheel is good but u the only problem is that u won't be able to drive like u used too. I did the same thing to mine. know when im drivin regularly i almost have to launch it or it bogs on me. Cops in my town look at me like im nuts when i launch it right next to them. i ve been pulled over 4 times for that in a month . but it does get better. u just need to break it in a little..
