belt squeel!!!

Hey all, I recently bought some belt dressing made by Prestone. My belts squeel if it rains or if it is really cold outside. I did as the instructions told me. 1) Shake well before using, 2) With the truck started and idleing, spray belt dressing on the pully on the grooves. I did this and now my belts sqeel even worse. It squeels all the time now, not just after it rained or got cold. My question is, Is this normal? If it is, then does that mean that I have bad berings in either my water pump, alternator, or power steering pump. I am just really pissed off. A product made to help actually screws things up. well i personally think u wasted ur money, but wut u should do is take the belt off and take a flat screwdriver n go around each groove and make sure they r clean, then look at the belt and inspect that. u should maybe think bout replacing it to i mean its only like 20 bucks isnt it?

take your belt off and clean it. if you see any cracks replace it. keep the old beld as a back up just in case the belt brakes. clean every pully that the belt tuches. make shur all of them spin free. check the tensoner to see if the spring still works and moves freely.

buy the best qulity belt you can find. what is happing is your belt gets a little age on it. the older thay get the stiffer thay get. when it gets cold and damp out side it will let you know its stiff.

belt dressing does not work on a serp belt. to temporarly stop squealing shoot it with a little penetrating sprayon it. if it is squealing you have a bearing starting to go out,bad tensioner,pulley out of alignment or belt is worn out

The belt dressing that I sale says right on the can not for sep belts. It will clog up the groves on sep belt pulleys. Do as told above and clean all of the junk that is now cloging the groves and put on a good belt, don't buy one of the cheap, second line belts.

lol he probably read the serpentine belt thing and was like "sounds fancy, i must not have it" lol...

My belt had 75k on it and squeeled. I replaced both of them and all is quiet. Keep the old ones with you as a spare

Your problem may also be a bad belt tensioner. I had this issue and it drove me crazy until I replaced the tensioner.

If it pisses you off to the point of trying a very inexpensive fix take nearly any degreaser and spray on the belt while it is running to get the belt dressing off. Spray the degreaser off with a water hose while the truck is running so if you do manage to get water on the coil packs it will burn off while only missing a time or two instead of not starting for an hour or two. After the belt has time to dry, take a piece of regular chalk and hold on the belt moving it back and forth while being cautious not to get your hand caught up in it. This should stop the squealing of the belt so you can determine if you have a bigger problem on your hands.
