Are you 100% sure the battery is good. Key stuck in ignition is because of the battery or any possible parasitic drain. Might consider getting the battery tested first before further troubleshooting. Any drain of over 25ma of current will cause it based on battery reserve capacity.

Thanks for your reply.......I know my battery is drained a bit, but this has occured due to a parasitic drain that I can't figure out.

Could be almost anything. The BCM module, low frequency power amp, retained accessory power (RAP) not working, starter/solenoid, etc. Normally to check for parasitic drain you need a grounding bar that hooks up to the battery negative. The ground bar will have test points to hook up a multimeter run in current position. If the draw is over 25mA/30mA then it is abnormal. Find your battery reserve capacity on the label and divide by 4. Basically, you will need to systematically start disconnecting electrical components that could be the cause.

When my original battery went belly up I couldn't get the key out of the ignition either. New battery and all was well. Have had another new one since but don't remember the key getting stuck.

Not that I would recommend doing it since you're working fine but disconnect the battery negative terminal. Then take ignition to start. Then back to off. Guess what the key will be stuck/locked in the ignition until you get 12v back to the key release solenoid. That is just the way it works needless to say.
