Ideas for a tatoo
Officer Redneck

I'm thinking about getting a tatoo. The one that i'm thinking about is a dream catcher in tan with brown ropes and three feathers hanging off in red, white and blue with a longhorn skull in the center of it. I will have my sons initials and D.O.B. on the forehead of the skull. This will be my first tat and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for other Native American type tatoo's.

Sounds cool to me. You could also consider a more simple design like a tribal tat or sumthin. Good luck, i hope it doesnt hurt too bad.

This is the tat i'm getting soon, it's not native american but it means something to me.

native american culture is so cool and they have some awesome stuff out there for tat ideas. some of my friends are native american and have some cool stuff. birds and the such. they usually have some meaning behind them i.e. the eagle is for power and strength.
as far as a tribal design goes, i know some artists that won't do tribal stuff anymore just because it's so mainstream it has lost it's appeal and it means nothing to them.

Yeah, some of the weirdest tattoos I've ever seen were on Indian guys. One had the grim reaper with an eagle on it. I don't know what in the hell it symbolized it anything but it was pretty damn cool.

as cheezy stupid as it sounds> try looking up.... i think its georgia o 'keefe who did all those paintings with the longhorn skulls, and flowers , and desert setting. and ild also look up sites where they have pics of what the different animals represents like bears, eagles, woodland, stuff like that. last thing you want is too put some animal on there, and some educated person bursts your bubble by saying its the symbol of sterility or some shit like that.

I have two tats and I must say, get something that means something to you, not just something you think is "cool". Think about it, you thought Sesame Street was cool when you were a kid, not so cool anymore is it? I'm happy with the two that I have and the ones I'm going to get later on because they have meaning to me, not just cuz they look good.
You don't want to wake up one day and be like man... that was a dumb idea. It is permanent. I'm not trying to be a dick or discourage you, but give it a good thought when you pick one.

I'm leaning strongly to the one I mentioned earlier but y'all have given me some food for thought. The guy I was gonna look at to do my tat has contracted AIDS (rumor?) so I'm looking for other places.

yea, think about it first. remember it's there for life so you can't really say "ahh shit, that sucks. but it'll come off" because it only comes off with lasers, they'll hurt and they'll scar.
will you still want it when you're a lot older? your call.

not to put you off, it's your choice entirely. just think about what it'll be like if you're older and you regret getting them done. you can't really go back. what will it look like when you're 60?
xviciousx
02-20-2006, 03:07 AM
Yeah guys, I have two like I said, and I'm happy with them today, 2 years later. They both have meaning to me and are things that HAVE had meaning for my entire life (left arm is a cross with a pretty marble effect inside and right arm has the kanji symbol for honor).

Yes definately put some thought into it. I have three and I am not against them, However I recomend people wait until they are @ 30 to do them, by then you are more likely to get one that you will be happy with even when you are 60. What ever you decide just be sure to use a sterile reputable tatooist, Hepatitis has been quite common lately even though they have to be state inspected, the state doesn't inspect every day. Unfortuantely there are alot of self proclamed tatoo artists out there that give a bad name to the pros. Good luck, it can be a very satisfying and rewarding experience.

I have never really put much thought into it until I read this.
Thinking about it, I can't think of anything that I like or is meaningful enough to get done right now.
And then, I was thinking about all the women I've seen with tattoos, and 99% of them look really manly. I've only seen a few that I actually thought looked good.
I don't think I'll get one unless it's really really small and can be covered easily.

All I can say is that the things are damn addicting. Make sure you check the drawing before the tatoo artist starts. Otherwise you end up with your name misspelled on your arm. Supposed to be Jason turned out to be Jasou

I want a tat between my shoulders of a manga portait of myself, arms extended, palms up. There'll be a globe floating over each hand sybolizing my world and yours, and that I possess the abilty to control my own life and possibly someone else's. Its a thought..I'm debating over the location. I have two years to think about it. I know I'll outgrow the manga I want tatooed on me, but I want it as a reminder of my mindset and as inspiration for hard times.

a nice quote i remember from an article about tattoos
"...whenever you get a tattoo, you have to make certain that it can be covered by a regular work shirt ... otherwise get 'don't hire me' tattooed across your forehead,"
just something for those who are thinking about getting a tattoo.
i suggest that whatever you get, get it small.
no need to cover your whole chest or anything.

part of tatoo culture is having it being taboo and risque, so as to not having it show when wearing normal clothes.
but i agree 100%. might as well have that inked on your forehead if you want a white-collar job.

I would love to get full sleeve tatoos, but The only way to really justify a ton of tattoes is to be a rock star, pro athlete, already rich, or a tatoo artist. since I can't sing, I am no pro level athlete, I am not rich, and i have a hard time drawing stick figures, I guess alot of tats are not part of the picture.
