Radiator cooling fans not working.

It got up to 70F degrees yesterday afternoon and I was cruising around town running errands, etc. The radiator cooling fans didn't come on and when I arrived home I let it sit in the driveway in full sun and idle for 15 minutes with the AC on wide open and the fans didn't come on and temp gage on dash never went over the sixth mark. The thermostat is working and heater works fine.
Most cars I have owned, when you turn on the AC the radiator fans come on. I called the Chevy service dept and the service writer said Venture fans don't come on until the coolant temp sensor tells them to and that way it saves wear on the fan motors running when they aren't really needed. OK, makes sense to me. I checked the cables to the fans and where they go on the engine and everything seems to be connected properly, and I guess when it gets hot enough the fans will go to work. Is the Chevy service writer correct? Where is the coolant temp sensor for the fans located?
Recently had modules replaced for the air bags and no error code for the radiator fans was noted. Thanx.

First a question: Was your Air Conditioner actually working? Was it blowing REALLY COLD? Mine will measure about 40 degrees F if I put a thermometer in one of the dash vents for a few minutes.
The reason I ask is that if the AC is working properly (compressor, condenser, etc.), I believe the fans should have come on (to draw air through the condenser). If they didn't, you may be low on refrigerant.
Here is a little information I put together about when the fans should come on. Maybe that will help a bit.

Take Care,

Hodwy Greg and thanks for the exellent info. Yes, the AC is definitely working and blows very cold air. When I bought it they stuck a thermometer in the dash vent and said the air is well within paramaters. I doubt the coolant got to 220F, so that's why the fans didn't come on. Today I'm going to check the fuses and take a piece of cardboard and put in front of the radiator and let it idle until the fans come on and the dash temp gage is below the over heated danger point. That way I'll know everything is working and ready for summer and I'll report back.
