Rebuilding the Heads.

Hello. Can anyone give me an ok price to pay for a valve job and resealing? If so that would be great. The heads are 350 stock heads. This is not including the cost of taking them off because they are already off of the car. Thank you.

What are you looking to do for the heads? If you go to www.summitracing.com you can look up the valves, valve springs and anything else you need just to get a rough estimate. All you have to do is estimate the time and labor and you would have yourself a nice little ballpark figure.

At our shop, a "basic" valve job consists of tearing them down, cleaning (thermally), magneflux, measure everything, grind the valves and seats, and reassembly. $140. Resurface (usually needed) is $90 for the pair. If the guides are beat, we charge $119 labor to install the whole set (16). The price of the guide will vary depending on material used.
Parts are replaced as necessary, and are extra charge. The seals are in the "head set" (all the gaskets necessary to change both heads). If you buy the "cheap" or "early" set, the seals might not be in there.
This information can be geographically sensitive, as shops in some parts of the country are higher than others. I supply our prices for comparison. We're 45 miles SW of Richmond, VA.
With all due respect to Summit, your local machinist will know more what you need, and usually be competitive in price.

All I have to say is he knows his stuff. I went to Summit today looking for some replacement valves and springs for my #5 heads. I brought the actual valves and springs with me to easily match them with a replacement set. Well the rep measured them and then gave me valves which where way to big. Then when I returned them the couldn't find any that size. I wasted 2 1/2 hours in wait and travel for nothing. I'm going to the machine shop tomorrow with the heads and all to see if they have anything that will meet my needs.
