Proper method for timing 1776 engine??

I am new to VW Engines....
I have a 1980 KELMARK GT Kit car I bought from eBay. It has a 1776cc engine,dual solex kadron carburators,engle 110 cam,009 distributor.
The car runs a little rough and the previous owner said the timing needs adjusted.
What is the proper method, and settings for this engine. I am at 585 ft elevation. Normally I set timing at 8 Deg BTDC @ 600 rpm on a conventional engine...

Engine size or year doesn't matter. Timing is based soley on the distributor. You also need to make sure that the ignition parts (condensor, points, etc) are correct for the .009.
Here's the info for the .009:
Distributor: VW 126-905-205, Bosch 0231 178 009
Chrome Version: Bosch 9230 081 094
Can Use: 0231 178 001, 0231 178 003, 0231 129 010, 0231 129 019
Points: 01 030
Condensor: 02 086
Rotor: 04 033
Dust Cover: 039-905-241, Bosch 1230 500 139 > 1230 500 147
Cap: 03 010
Distributor Cap Clip: 034-905-265, Bosch 1231 251 033
Coil: 6 Volt - 00 016, 12 Volt - 00 012
Timing Set At:: Most applications - 5 to 7.5deg BTDC Static. Full advance should not exceed 32 degrees at 3000rpm with stroboscopic timing light.

Thanks!! thats what I thought... The fella that i'm buying the kelmark from said he was told, "45* at 2500 rpm" :screwy:, but couldn't quite get it right, it was still coughing and sputtering...

I've learned a lot since I bought this Kelmark...
I replaced, Dist Cap, rotor, Points, plug wires and Plugs.... Seems the problem is the left Kadron/ Solex carb. Its missing the Venturi inside it and is not delivering the proper amount of fuel.
I have bought a weber 40 with intake on eBay, going to convert from Dual back to Single Carb.
I will post the dual setup on here and eBay if anyone needs them for rebuilders or parts.....

Kadrons are good carbs, might think about keeping them. Contact A.J. Simms at lowbugget.com, he can help with any problems you might be having, maybe cheaper than the Weber.

I have removed the distributor... dismanteled it and discovered that one of the flyweights was broken and missing a spring. I'll be ordering a new one this friday....Unless anyone knows where to find a Rebuild Kit for a Bosch .009 Distributor.
