Seat belt differences?

Ok, now I'm wondering... I've got a '90 DX h/b & my seat belts are in the doors (which really sucks). 90Civicrider also has a '90, but no belts in the doors. Hmmm... Are they that much different in Canada? What I'm wondering is if the 90-91 USDM h/b's only came with the belts in the doors? Or did the 88-89 as well? I've seen other hatch's without the belts in the doors, but honestly never paid attention to what year it was :(

I'm asking because I hate my belts in the doors, and I like the style of door panel that is in 90Civicrider's hatch (with that little pocket at the bottom of the panel). Could I switch over to the 'other' seat belts & just get different door panels?

yea you can switch, you need the seat belt harness though and all those pieces...it came on the body in 88 and 89, on the doors in 90 and 91...I have a usdm 91 with seat belts on the doors and hate it :( My door closes on the seat belt and it chips the paint when the metal belt gets crushed

ahhh c'mon CZ_R...you don't have a tougher ? than that? :silly2: LOL!

the 88-89 the seat belts were mounted to the car...the 90-91 they are mounted to the door. it only took me buying 3 different '90 Civic's and my friend slamming the belt in the door in each one to realize maybe to check out an 89. now as you know, i can't stand the screw holes in the corner lights of the 88-89....so to make the perfect match i got an 89 and upgraded to 90 fenders. i know i'm a freak...but at least i have a method to my madness

if your belts are messing up the paint that bad, try taking your car to a honda dealership and having them fix it. If you look back, there is a thread I started about auto seatbelts being messed up, but I am too lazy to look for it. I never actually took my car to get them fixed cause they started to work again and havent given me problems since.

Yeah, seatbelts are under a lifetime warranty, they will fix or replace them for free if they don't spool back up. Had it done on mine, didn't even have to ask them, they offered to do it when I had my car in the shop for something else... and it's free.

Good to know, I have to pull my belts back up.

Will they fix the doors too? Both door interior's are damaged because the belts always get caught when the door is shut?

You probably gotta make an appointment.

Don't think they'll fix the damage though. The reason the seatbelts are under that warranty is because it's a safety device... I don't think they care about any cosmetic defects due to the seatbelts not working... I think they're just covering their ass so they don't get sued for faulty belts.

Or do what I did.....buy Del Sol seats and be stylin in the most comfortable seats ever......I have never sat in anything nicer......I like them better than the JDM Recaros I had.....and the Momo's.....they look better too....not to flashy.......oh and Upgrade to 4pts.....Im getting 3pts....just cause I like em better.

Cool! I think there's an '89 in one of the yards here :). And yeah, people keep slammin' my doors without the seatbelts retracted all the way & now both door panels are messed up. I'll have to tinker with it this weekend & see what I can come up with!

Thanks for all your input guys. And thanks for picking on me Ami - lol! ;);)

Laterz all,

Hey guys,
I was considdering getting some 3 or 4 point harnesses... I was just curious where you guys anchor the straps to?

I gave up on th edoor mount belts too. Hate 'em. I put these on my side of the car:

Those are cool. Where the hell is the C pillar?

A piller is the front post holding the roof up, B is behind the door and C is the back corner. I tried the shoulder harness on the C pillar and it sucked.

I hooked the shoulder harness to the left center rear seat belt mount (who ever stuffs 5 people in a civic anyway?). The right side of the lap belt is to the factory mount on the driver's seat (with the stock one still there), and the left side to the seat mounting bolt on floor. I can revert to stock seat belt use if I have to fold down the rear seat or carry anyone behind me in the seat.

Well, I ripped out my back-seat a while back, and I'm building a fiberglass speaker box to go where the back seats used to be, so I was thinking of anchoring the harness to the outer back seatbelt mounts... Do you think this would work? I don't wanna have big ol' straps running way back to my C pillar, and the center-rear seatbelt mounts will be blocked by the speaker box...

I dunno. It might work if the speaker boxes don't get in the way. With no rear seats you should be able to find all kinds of places to mount the shoulder harness.

Well, the main thing I'm concerned about is legality... Do I have to use a factory installed mount in the stock location, or can I have one welded/bolted in somewhere more to my liking?
