Ignition Upgrades? Worth it?

In the near future, after i get done wiht my stereo wants im going to take care of my engine waneeds.
Flushing the coolant and replacing Tranny fluid and seeing if any other fluids need replacing im going to do electrical stuff. Plugs, Wires, Possibly Coil. My question is are any performance/economy gains seen by going with the "high" perofmance stuff?

Ehh, it's doubtful you'll see much improvement in your motor with just a plugs and iginition. If there is, probably won't be noticable on the Buttdyno.
Milege might improve a tad though, getting a more efficient burn always helps.

that stuff is useless on stock engines. on highpowered boosted engines when spark getting blown out becomes an issue then that would help a ton. nissanfanatic with a MSD just made 20 more whp with the same psi.

well it depends, im a firm believer in ignition upgrades but within reason. A basically stock engine doesnt need any ignition upgrades. But an engine running alot more HP could benefit from a stronger spark. Also an older engine could get alot back from just replacing as many electrical wires as possible. Corrosion can seriously kill power in an engine. check all your wires for corrosion

You dont have to necessarily get high performance stuff, just make sure its quality. No point in buying crap just to need to replace it soon.

They did a test in GRM about how much hp you can pick up in a stock class for auto-cross, and they decided that for spark plugs you should stick with your OEM brand, but for wires you should get something like Magnacor. On a completely stock engine, they could pick up 3 whp with just wires.

Better than nothing, but like Redneck said it will go unnoticed on the buttdyno. Might be good for same gas savings though and that is never a bad thing. Don't need to help the Bush's out any more than we are anyway.

lol for some reason i just remembered this one time i was at the local auto enthusiats hangout, and some kid in a grand AM GT was telling me how he was paying some guy 120 dollars to make him some custom ignition wires and put some top quality spark plugs in. He was dead set that he was gonna pick up 20+ HP on his stock motor. lol the more i told him it wouldnt work, the more fustrated and angry he got. I was like dude, your gonna get 3-5HP at most and that the guy wasnt going to be doing anything special. . .

It won't help unless you need it(spark blowing out).
OEM replacement everything is the way to go. Torque your spark plugs properly. I would use OEM ignition wires, but our OEM wires have serious issues with plug boots falling apart in the spark plug holes(about 8" down in a hole the size of a half-dollar. not fun). I use Magnecor wires, but OEM do just as well. Many people use them on 500whp+ applications on KAs.
