Engine making clicking noise

Have an 03 TB with 6 cyl and every time it's started, a strange clicking noise is coming from the engine. Goes away for the most part after it warms up 10-15 minutes later, but sometimes comes back. I've looked around the engine..doesn't seem to be the belt tensioner...sounds more like it's coming from the top of the engine. Anyone else have similar noises???

My 02 does the same thing, it is just the lifters warming up. It is a common thing, and I never noticed it until a few months ago. But, everything is fine and dandy with my TB so I dont worry about it.

The "clicking" noise that I heard from my TB was actually the fan clutch going bad. The speed of the clicking would not change when I revved the engine, so I knew it wasn't a valve or anything like that. Try revving the engine next time and see if that makes a difference. It didn't do it every time, only sometimes, and never for the dealer. Finally it went all the way out and stayed fully engaged. That is when the dealer finally replaced it. No more clicks since then.....finally.

Good point mark!

Check this, it is a really common issue and one that can be fixed for ~$350 tops if you have the dealer do it out of warrenty. I know it isnt the clutch on mine, as right when I start it the clutch locks up and spins really fast for 2-3sec like it is supposed to and then quiets down. Another big sign of the clutch going bad is really bad mileage and a jet-engine woooosh coming from the hood.

Yeah, that is how I knew that my clutch had finally gone out...the engine sounded like a Mac-truck when I cranked it up one morning....and it wouldn't stop. You could tell something was surely wrong!! The clicking that mine made was prior to this....when the "whoosh" came, they replaced it. Clicking and 'Woosh" gone.....;)
