Hey all;
I'm buying Travis' head off his car and I'm going to rebuild it. I've always wanted to do this, but I don't know where to start. I want to get it ported and get some kickass flow. I know its oging to be expensive, so I'm not doing anything for awhile yet. But can someone point me in a direction to look at? Like parts, and places to get it ported. Thanks!!

Anyone??? No info??

Do I need new head bolts then?

Where can I send for porting?

Do I certain valves and springs then for after the port?

Yes you'll need new head bolts.

I ported my head myself, it's actually quite easy.

Just don't get port crazy and port it TOO much.

I used a variable speed die grinder with an assortment of different bits. You don't need to replace any of head components. Actually Hahn has a 420a doing 10's on a stock head! The 420a heads are actually quite strong. I think I'm going to throw in some cams when I get to working on mine again, but for what you want, you shouldn't need to replace anything.

I'd cam the bitch if I were you. I dont know 420a heads, but I would go with some better springs and retainers so you can rev it out a little and not have to worry about valve float.

Very nice Travis

So I can use the stock valves and everything even after porting?

Yepp. If Hahn uses the stock head on a 10 sec. boosted car, I think we can use the stockers on just a ported head.

Woohoo, post number 1600 baby. Only 400 more till 2k. :)

But arent you making the holes bigger? How will the stock valves and all still fit when everything else is bigger. Seems like it would all fall apart.

No, don't make the valve ports bigger, just the intake and exhaust ports. When most people port heads, they usually just port the intake and exhaust manifolds. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone porting the "valve ports."

Ahhh... i had the wrong idea then. So its just the intake/exhaust runners then? I can't wait to get this going.

Here are some things you can do to your head if you want

- Polished Stainless Steel Valves
- Bronze Valve Guides
- New Valve Stem Seals
- Crower Valve Springs & Titanium Retainers
- New Rocker Arms
- New Hydraulic Lifters
- Performance Valve Job
- Head resurfaced
- Intake Porting
- Combustion Chamber work

Its pricey, but you don't have to do everything.
