97 continental vibration in front

I've got a 97 continental. There is a vibration or deep sounding noise coming from front of car. I really notice it around 30 miles and higher. It gets louder and more vibration with increased speed. You can feel it in the gas pedal. It does not do it when stopped and engine revved. It only does it when your driving. When I let off gas it still does it but vibration lowers with decreased speed. Tranny seems ok-no shutter, doesn't slip. There is no vibration or shimmy in steering wheel. All 4 tires brand new and balanced. Does not do it when I stop so that eliminates brakes. It still has same power and performance as it's always had, but that vibration/deep sound worries me. Sorry for being so longwinded, just trying to explain symptoms thoroughly. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, C.A.

I just had my 1997 Linc Conti in for an alignment and the mechanic had to replace inner and outer tie rod ends. . This could cause your vibration.

Well, I ended up taking it into the Lincoln dealer this morning, because we have a roadtrip coming up in 2 weeks. Anyhow they found the pass. side front wheel bearing is bad and tie rod ends worn/in need of replacement, so he said those two things together is where the vibration is coming from. So the total est. on that is around $630. Phew!

So I'm not sure if replacing these parts myself is a smart thing. I've done these same parts on an 87 mustang of mine but obviously never on a Continental. Anyone ever done this themselves or am I asking for trouble? :screwy:

My mechanic did the inner/outer tie rods and 4 wheel alignment for $360.

Hi, I had the exact identical problem in my 97, just picked it up from the garage last evening and it drives like new!! They replaced both wheel bearings and front brake job. Total bill $480.00
The car even seems to have increased power, possibly because the bearring were causing drag??
Good luck with your situation, feel confident that the repair will solve your problem. Kevin
