What is the purpose of the EGR?

If I were to get a kit that removes it what Would I gain/lose?

The EGR diverts some of the exaust gas back into your engine when it is cold. The heat from the exaust helps the engine warm up faster. Once the engine is warm the valve closes and your engine operates normally. It is a required emissions item. There is no performance gain from removing it.

actually, the EGR allows the engine to use up a little bit less gas when little to medium throttle is being used by recirculating some of the spent gases back into the intake chambers.

in our supras, it's basically something done to clean up the engine bay a bit and remove more parts that will break.

it basically gives the car a better gas mileage.

Its been awhile but I recently came across this on suprstore.com.

Its the blocker plates for the EGR and claims to be slight power gains.

You would lose fuel economy and the ability to pass emissions testing.
