I am wondering if you can clean the poppets on injectors yourself with compressed air or will it cause damage.

P.S. Broke A$$ student here lol.

With a half a tank of gas put in either Seafoam injector cleaner or Chevron Techron, then run it down to 1/4. What is the problem here? Forget the air deal, no such thing.

I am told that dealerships/specialty shops clean injectors with compressed air, several people have told me to try that route.

As for the seafoam, just how good is this stuff, everyone seems to recommend it as the miracle fixer. I am just a little skeptical of a can fixing my problems, will try though.

Personally, I prefer Techron. It is the most effective injector cleaner that I've found.

The compressed air treatment is not something that you can do yourself. IMO this service is not worth it. The price that the dealer charges is comparable to the cost of a new updated MFI system if you own a 96+. The poppet valves on the injection systems prior to 96 don't have the problems that the newer ones do. This TSB contains info on the cleaning and the new MFI system:

I knew it!
These dam things just plug up sometimes (No FUEL).
Is the new MFI plauged with the same blocking problems?
I purchased a 1997 that was sitting for a few years & it turns out 5 of 6 poppets were sticking so bad, the engine wouldn`t start & when I took it apart, the 5 never opened despite my 64 PSI fuel pressure & running the engine for an hour(by dripping fuel intop the throttlebody).
So, it`s my guess(based on the PDF file you presented) most of the rebuilt spiders are just new/cleaned Poppets!?
Thanks

One more question, the pipe that the poppet clips onto, is it just a tube, or is it a metered orafice? Can I push a wire through to clear it?
Thanks

I've also heard that Lucas Fuel Treatment is pretty good too. I wanted to get your input on it?

Also, where can I find that Seafoam fuel injector back here in the West?

thanks

thanks Lucas is good, i used it to clean the system last time i got sputtering injectors. i'm starting the CSFI to MFI that was mentioned to me by blazee in the tech bulletin from gm. just make sure that the gm parts guy doesn't teel you what mine did. the part number 12568332 us a quantity of 1, but it is the SET including 6 injectors. so only 1 SET is needed, gm partsdirect $148.00, my parts guy said i needed 6, and withthe other parts to get this done right, he qouted $1400.00!!!!. my LOCAL gm goodwrench guy said he doesn't even stock the 88894355 bracket, cause in the 8 years he has done this conversion, they never used one, but i'm gonna order it anyway, or that will be the only part i brea.!!!
i'll be doing this this week, so if you want, i'll let ya know. also, on a thread that is under 4.3l perfomance tips/tricks, blazee gave a link to the dervice bulletin from gm on how to clean the poppet injectors. i did this without the air tank blow down, didn't want to shoot injectors across my lawn, and it worke for a while, but i'm doing the other fix in the bulletin, the conversion to MFI.
