Hello :)

Recently i came across a post which mentioned that 7th generation honda civics are slower than the 6th generation civics. But why? And how do i find out what generation is a particular honda civic? For example the 1999, 2000 and 2001 honda civics. What generation are they?

Yes the 7th gen are the slower civics. Because they was built and designed for low emissions and economy. They have bigger engine (1.7L) than the 6th gens (1.6L), with similar throttle body, the same bore, similar exhaust, other type of intake manifold, similar injectors, etc.
Plus the VTEC engine is VTEC-E, wich means VTEC Economy, just for economy not for power. Its extra power is due to higher compression.

92-95 5th gen
96-00 6th gen
01-05 7th gen
06+ 8th gen

Actually, there is no proof that the 7th gens are slower than the 6th gen. Show me the proof and I will agree. However, the 6th gens are more mod friendly. First of all, the 6th gen front suspension was double wishbone. Honda engineers got trashed and stoned one night and decided to implement strut design in the front just to mess with us. I guess their argument was to provide a "supple" ride, but obviously the handling characteristics and potential decreased. Also the 7th gen D series is the first civic motor to implement direct ignition while the 6th gen still had distributor. It meant that it was harder for an average joe to play around with timing and ignition control compared to the 6th gen. So I will definitely say that the 7th gens are less friendly to mod than the 6th gens, but I don't know about being slower, bone stock. The 7th gen looks a lot nicer, both inside and outside.
