Go to Autozone or several other parts stores and have them hook up a code reader. It should give you a code telling you what has malfunctioned. I'd bet an O2 sensor has died. Please let us know what you find.

On my 96GC with a 3.8 ltr engine there are two O2 sensors. The forward sensor is on top of the exhaust manifold on the back side of the engine. The aft sensor is either just forward or aft of the catalytic converter, a few feet aft of the engine on the exhuast. Not sure if a 95 is the same or what engine you have but you've got a starting point.
To make sure I understand what you're saying: the code reader flagged a bad O2 sensor and the wires were shorted. Somebody replaced the sensor and the shorted wires. You're still getting a check engine light but the van runs great now.
If thats correct it looks like you need to check it again with the code reader and see what you get. Not likely but could be another O2 sensor or more likely something else. Did somebody clear the codes? Keep in touch.
