I'm having really bad valve chatter when I step on the gas. Does anyone know the cause of this and how to fix it?

The problem with gm 3.1L. is the weak top end. The intake gasket will leak and will need to be replaced at least once in its life, and also the infamous valve chatter. Usually caused by overly accelerating the engine too much. we are currently putting this issue to a cure at the shop and we're leaning more towards a piston smacking issue. If you want to quiet the chatter i'd recommend using a product like Rislone or lucas which will temperarally quiet the noise. I will update the exact problem shortly.

just replaced a lifter and upper and lower gktset last week, had been running Lucas oil in it and did not show and apprecietable differance. I checked clearances on the valve lash and found that is probably the biggest culprit since there is no adjustment except replacement, the Malibou is a 2000 and has only 48000 miles on,as for my suggestion I think GM has come out with a adjustable rockerarm!so we can take up more of the valve lash.( also GM makes a additive called Lubricity that induces wear I am going to try to see if I can get the metal to wear more closely!
