trans help

dont really want to post this here but i need help lilke really, really fast. i just got done putting a junkyard tranny in a 96 ford van, now it drives but it wont shift out of 1st, what could be the prob besides a bad tranny??

and yes I KNOW this isnt the right forum, but what other forum has this much activity?

did you change the tranny fluid before you put it in the car? the clutch packs might be shot since you got out of a junkyard... also you could try adjusting the linkage, it may only be putting the tranny into first when you put it into drive... does reverse work?

torque converter might be shot... thats usually what happens when it goes (if its internal)
