Heads and Headers.

I have a 350 carbed camaro(1980), not the original engine. My problem is I would like to be able to find some good stock heads. I am going to go with a brand new set from Advance Auto Parts because the originals need so much work. Has anyone ever bought these and are they of good quality? Also, I have a brand new set of Dynomax headers. My car does not have any A/C at all but it does have power steering. My brother says I will have to take off the starter to install them and lots more. Is this true?

Isn't it the other way around? You have to take the header off to get at the starter, not take the starter off to put the header on.

If you dont have to take the starter off, has anyone installed headers (long tubes) on an 70-81 camaro? Are they hard to do? And any info on the stock heads question would be greatly appreciated.

First, verify the words "brand new" from Advance. That is, are these heads actually new? (NEVER installed before), or are they remanufactured? If they're truly new, they will either be "Vortec" heads (a bit of a misnomer...) or aftermarket replacements, such as the World Products S/R Torker. More detail is needed to assure you of what those heads really are. Get a casting number, if possible.
To install headers, generally, you must remove the starter, oil filter, motor mounts, etc., and jack the engine up as high as possible, and "slip" the headers in from underneath. Quality headers come with step-by-step instructions for your application. As the old saying goes: "When all else fails, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!"...
