I would say the risk is not changing it... clean off the magnet if it has one and change the filter too

the fluids job is to lubricate... when it gets old it breaks down and doesn't do its job.... if your worried about gunk then you could always flush new fluid through the tranny once, before you fill it for the last time...

Meh, that's just heat breakdown. So long as it's not gritty feeling, then I would say no..

If you do not change it it is going to burn up your trans for sure.
A trans just loves good clean fluid and filter.
I would not get carried away with a power flush on a dirty trans except on a ford which is another deal.
Change the filter and fluid and in a short time later do it again.

Mine was liek that... change the fluid and filter and you're good to go.
PS 100,000 miles is nothing... I'm at 171,6xx and counting, original motor/trans

oops, re-read mine, there was suppossed to be emphasis on if the fluid WAS gritty which would be the friction disk material from the clutch packs, then no don't change it.
Otherwise if it's just browninsh and no grit, go ahead and change it.
Sorry about that.
