burning relays...

yeah, my car keeps burning my fuel pump relay.. i had rigged it up to another relay so it was getting power directly but decided to do it legit.. i put a new relay and the car worked awesome while i drove to school and back but today when i go to try to turn it on, you hear nothing when you turn the key (no fuel pump sound), also the check engine light doesnt go on as it would normally go on when you turn the key. all the other lights (security, and airbag) go on except the check engine light which would only give me a code 12 obviously. I know the only solution to get my car to start again is to change the relay again so i can drive it to a shop.. but do I more than likely have a short? I am getting pretty sick of getting shorts with this car.. I even think about getting another wiring harness.. wth should i do.. :uhoh:

since you mention no check engine light at the same time I'd be looking around the fuse by the battery for the f/p&ecm

It looks like a dead end weatherpack connector, you pull the top off and there's a blade fuse inside, 20A I think. It should be bolted to the fender right there.

k, checked the fuse, does have a 20A fuse and it is good.. i always wondered what that was hehehe

so that fuse is for the ECM.. which fuse is for the fuel pump?

It's supposed to be both ecm/fp

Well, since the fuse is ok, the problem is after it.
No radio amp or nothing in the hatch right?
Got another key, although never heard of a vats problem blowing relays.

definately, but where, hows the oil pressure swtich reading on the guage?

There is another FP fuse in the fuse block. but if you aren't getting the checkengine light with the key on, check the bulb to make sure it works...otherwise the ECM is fried and this could explain why the pump isn't running when the key is turned on.

That thought had crossed my mind except when he said he was able to pull codes later, only 12 of course.

well, the voltage guage goes up like normal and the fuel pressure guage reads 0 when turning the key. I never really pulled codes but just knew that was the code being thrown out. is there a way of checking whether the ECM is fried??

is there a way to check if the ECM had taken a dump?

There's a code (never really flags itself tho).
And I think there's a dtc 26 which is a quad driver failure, but on the code charts it lists something else?
