Anyone tell me how long the life expectancy is of the blower unit on the supercharger. Also is premium fuel needed?

The supercharger is fairly durable. Typically the coupler is what goes. Length of time varies but most guys reports a sound of rocks rolling around when the coupler starts to go. A guesstimate would be 60K A fairly easy fix. Dealer will claim the unit is not serviceable and rape you when they sell you a rebuilt unit. Very important for you to check the oil in the supercharger periodically and change it at intervals. Check your maintenance schedule.

Overall life expectancy is well over 100K miles for the Eaton M90 Gen3 supercharger.

I did my first snout seal, bearings and coupler at 87K miles DIY. It only needed the coupler. I did the snout since it has to be removed to replace the coupler.

On premium fuel...yes. The only way to know if sure if you can get by with other grades such as mid is to run an Autometer type scanner or a program such as Autotap and see what knock retard (KR) in degrees you are getting. Running premium will preclude or minimize KR which may eventually cause engine damage.

Change the supercharger oil out annually to preserve the life of the supercharger. All the dealer will do is check the SC oil level when taken in for service.

Sounds like the first signs of the coupler. Don't wait too long to get the improved coupler. DIY procedure is below:

I get all of my SC parts from ZZP or on Ebay:

Thanks guys for the help. The original post was submitted by a friend, and your responses set my mind at ease about buying an '03 GS. 29K on the odometer, and still under the new car warranty. Had it a little over a month, and we love it. :-)

Congratulations. :bigthumb:

You won't ever be disappointed with it. I've had ny '01 GS for 5 years now and not a single problem that needed any warranty work just normal preventive maintenance. Great touring and commuter car.
