ball joint replacement anyone?

Anyone replaced ball joints? I have a 96 w/90k mi and I'm almost certain the ball joints need replacing. There is a clunk up front. I've already changed the sway bar links--they were bad.

I started last night and tried to get the cv axle out of the spindle so that I could press the ball joint out, but I could get the axle out. I was very frustrated! :banghead: Do I need to loosen the pinch bolt on the strut? I also loosened the lower control arm bolt from the subframe, but that didn't do any good. The Chilton manual is about worthless on this procedure. :banghead: When is Haynes going to come out with a manual?
