Does anybody know how to get the alternator out of a 2001 New Beetle TDI? It's loose all bolts out ect. but I can't find a path to get it outta there. Please help, it's my girlfriends car and she's starting to figure out I'm not that cool. P.S. I have the Bently service manual but it's not that much help. It say's remove tensioner, remove alternator, installation is reverse of removal, a little vague to say the least, lol. Oh yeah, I removed the tensioner. PLEASE HELP!!!

unbolt the a/c compressor on the bottom and move it out of the way

Already did that but the bracket is still in the way, the bracket by the way cannot be removed without taking half the effen motor apart. I just don't see how it can come out. please tell me you've actually taken one out before. :(

Can you onbolt the engine mount(s) and jack the engine up a bit to give you more room? - I found this made it possible to reove the alt on my old Jag XJ6L.

you need to use a pry bar to pry the alternator out of the bracket. once thats done you should be able to drop it down with the ac compressor removed

freddyshoop,
So did you get the alternator out. I am facing the same problem on a 03 TDI Beetle. I have the alternator loose, the tensioner out, and the A/C pump hanging. I just cannot see a way for it to come out! Any insight would be great.
Thanks, Rayha

I just did mine the other day on my 2003 2.0. It was kind of like solving a arubics cube, but I got it out without loosening any motor mounts. I should have taken pictures.
