Thanks for sharing the article. I've been wrestling with weather or not to spend the money for the after market cold air intake. I guess his testing diesels vs. gas makes no difference because you'd think filtration is filtration. I'll have to look further into it before making up my mind.

Interesting read, however, I'm with Jeverett on this one. I added my AEM Brute force and love it for 3 reasons:
1) little more power better fuel mileage.
2) Louder when you put your foot in it.
3) Cleans up the Engine Compartment and makes it easier to work on the truck.
Cheers

This was a long read, but in a nutshell this guy says,
"The stock filter will flow MORE THAN ENOUGH AIR to give you ALL THE HORSEPOWER the engine has to give. And this remains true until the filter is dirty enough to trip the air filter life indicator. At that point performance will decline somewhat. Replace the filter and get on with it."

I just insatll a true flow cold air on my truck and it is the best I had k&n 77 sold it due to the air box that is removed I get in some deep hole for hunting season and the open air box is not the best thing so I look into this true flow that will use the stock air box and I find it is much better than the K&N more horse for sure but don't know about the mpg look it up they said (maybe a sales pitch but the 4.8 get a 13hp gain) in my 5.3 i noticed that gain

I have a K&N Gen II air Filter System on my 2000 Chevy Silverado.. I noticed hp gain and mph gain imidiately. But if you really want to see HP gain.. replace the fatory MAF Sensor with a High Perf MAF sensor.

MAF = Mass Air Flow
you can get one here: www.turckperformance.com
They located between the Airfilter and the intake. Very easy to replace.
