I recently inherited a 91 Caprice Classic from my great grandfather. The car is in pretty good shape. It has 101k miles, and few dints and dings but no rust. The car is equipped with a keyless entry system which no longer works. I’ve changed the battery in the transmitter with no luck. Could it be the receiver? Where is the receiver? Is it the thing in the blue thing in the defrost vent? Another problem the car has is with the radio. When it is turned on it makes an ear piercing high pitched screech no matter if it is on am or fm, every station and with a tape in. What could be the problem? The driver’s side window is also off the track, how could I fix that? I’m at a loss. Could I fix any of these problems myself? Any help or repair suggestions would GREATLY be appreciated

The window should be fairly easy if you get the door panels pulled off - it's likely the regulator tape somehow disconnected from the glass. On my car, it was a bolt at the bottom of the door on the regulator tape track that had come off, allowing the door to simply fall off the regulator. The regulator tape is that plastic belt-like thing that has the holes in it.

As far as the radio distortion you're hearing, its the radio itself. Mine did the same thing. I actually inherited my 91' from my Grandma. You have to replace the radio with a new one to get the distortion away. So, at least you can get a CD player.

For the window, you might want to look at this:

There are other sites that explain the proceedure too.

I have tried a couple of different stereos from salvage yards to no avail, always the same high-pitched screech. If you wait long enough you can barely hear the radio over the screech. It only comes from the back speakers; I have also tried switching out the amp in the trunk with no luck.

oh if you have an amp in the trunk you most likely have the bose system, if its onyl comeing from the rear speakers its probaly the amp thats screwed, good luck finding any parts for that bose system, they arnt very easy to come by
