...I held pedal to floor. Which cut off injectors so it was flooding. 4.6 with 25,000 original miles. Ran great till cold front overnite. Rough idle at lites after that. What caused it? Warmer weather now and starts, runs fine again. Replacing coolant temp. sensor tomorrow but don't feel thats it either. I know others have had this same problem but could'nt find any in search. TIA. :)

did the car sit for a long time? if so i would change the fuel filter. its on the driver side frame rail on my 96gm. as for the hard starting, mine did that as well. i cleaned the idle control valve with carb cleaner and that fixed the problem of hard starts when cold. hope that helps. post if it doesnt. also check air cleaner inlet for mouse nest. has to be something simple if the car has only 25,000 on it.

Its driven every day on errands. Ran perfect till problem on cold morning. Not like it slowly started to have problem. So I can't believe its dirty injectors. Has to be a sensor?

I dont think your injectors are dirty, Im just saying that the iac valve effects starting and running. i live in Wi and my car had a hard time starting in the cold, would idle rough and die a stop lights. This was caused by the IAC valve. I cleaned the IAC valve and the problem stopped. As for the fuel filter I would change that just because the car has only 25,000 miles on it and is 12 years old, that would make me wonder what the condition of fuel delivery system is prior to the injectors. There could be sludge or gum in the tank or bottom of tank, I would change the filter because it takes 5 minutes and only costs 9 bucks. Also I would checked the air intake to make sure there was no obstructions in air flow which would effect air intake when its cold. good luck let us know what it is.

You mean the IAT sensor? "Intake Air Temperature " sensor in the filter box? Or did you mean the MAF "Mass Air Flow" sensor, which is in the box as well? I'm going by AutoZone terminology. BTW, the filter is new and the sensors shiny clean so it was just plain sensor failure IMO. I'm ruling fuel system completely out. Problem is causing too much injector turn-on time. Thanx again for your help. That next Artic blast this weekend will cause it to crop up again I'm sure. Ha! Just below you here in Illinois.

Figures, its the only one I can't get to, or see, from all the stuff. Think you're right. The IAT sensor checked out with the ohmmeter. Obviously its just a simple thermistor. Did your "check engine" lite come on? Mine did'nt. If it's the IAC its going to the mechanic, I don't even have a garage to work in. Thanx for your help.

Scan the computer for error codes.
Run a can of SeaFoam through the gas tank. You can get it at NAPA for $6. It's good stuff. www.seafoamsales.com
