Car is a 1996 3.8L Camaro with the 4L60E auto trans. Mods are:
-3" Magnaflow Catback
-3" Carsound Cat Converter
-4.10 Gears
-Auburn LSD
-Custom CAI with K&N filter
-PCMforless tune (premium gas, firm shift points, 160 thermo, no knock sensor, and higher rev limiter)
What do you think this would get in 1/4? Will it take on a Ion Redline or a Cobalt SS?

Are you on full throttle by any chance??? I like your mods, they look pretty familiar ;)
You should be somewhere in teh 14s... based on me running my firends coby SS on the street I think when I put my gears in I will take him, but then again street and track are totally different.
Look into suspension and also a higher stall torque converter, something with a 3000 stall or higher as your next mods. LCAs are a must IMO, poly mounts (for your tranny and torque arm) are cheap, easy and help a little (some customization is needed, I cna elaborate if you wish or FormulaLT1 may remember since I installed mine at his house)... then next probably a good aftermarket torque arm.. .shift kit... but I digress.
You ever run at the track before?

Haha thanks Savage.
No, never been on the track before, but come this summer I will have. About that stall converter.... how hard is it to install? Also, I don't want to blow the trans, would it put any extra strain on my tranny?
I was going to go with a 2600 stall converter back awhile ago, but decided for the gears instead.
As for suspension, I want to get new springs all around since the ones I have now are shot to hell. How much we talking here? Any brands come to mind? I also wouldn't mind dropping the car no more then an inch while doing the springs.
Keep in mind this car has 160,000 miles on original motor and transmission, I'm not looking to blow it up, but it has been purring nicely since the day I bought it.

Definately install a tranny cooler if you don't have one already... shift kit wouldnt hurt but I don't think it would be necessary.
Not sure on the difficulty but it does involve pulling the trans... FormulaLT1 would know.
mines has over 171,000 and take every bit of abuse I give her just fine ;) and that's a LOT of abuse

Tranny cooler... How much? I can't install that or the torque converter myself and I think it would be wayyyy to pricey to have someone do it.
Anyone with tranny pulling experience in Chicago want to help? Food is on ME!

i'm about a half hour drive east of cleveland, you'll prolly go thru my town on your way there. I'd love to see your car on the track with my aurora. When it comes close to that time, I'll give you my cell number so we can meet up or something.

Well. Installing a stall itself is easy. Its getting the tranny out to do it thats a bitch. I would not install a high quality stall on a original 160K+ tranny though. For two reasons. One it will increase strain on the tranny and even with a tranny cooler your temps will go up cause basically with a stall your purposely causing slipping. Also if you blow a gear or strip something there is a chance you could ruin the torque converter by circulating bits of metals and other material threw the fluid that enters it. Rebuild or purchase a newwer/lower mileage tranny and then throw a stall in it.
