I recently took my 98 F-250 into a shop for a tune up, and strangely enough a day after i get it back, there is a terrible noise coming from the left front end. It's kinda like a grinding noise and it is VERY loud. It makes this noise when I am parked and turn the wheel in either direction or just put pressure down on the left front bumper, or just going over bumps. The truck handles fine on the road and doesn't drift either way. I took it back to the shop and they said my wheel bearings where shot and needed replaced at a cost of over $375.00. I have checked the rods and they seem tight. Could it be the wheel bearings or is the "shop" trying to mess with me and get more $$$ for something they "rigged" up while it was in for a tune-up?

Need to know what year? I would get a second opinion. If it is super duty then it is very likely that the wheel bearing is bad, they seem to be eating them up.

I've also seen the super duty's go thru wheelbearings. But if it's sitting still, a wheelbearing won't make any noise. You need to inspect everything. Some vehicles require the front end to be "unloaded" (off the ground jack under frame rail, NOT control arm)to properly inspect the steering components. Grab a manual for the truck. It'll be handy to have in the future, also..
